I have no idea. It's just fic.

I just wondered, cos the Doctor's a total bastard in it and I was wondering if that was the point? It's pretty dark with the killing through negligence and the way he refuses to engage with any emotion beyond "despair about Rose." A hundred years of moping is suggestive of severe mental problems on his part, no?

Oh! Absolutely. Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, it's kind of a musing on a "maybe what could be". I mean it sucks pretty hard: he's lead a life that has left pretty much a royal mess everywhere he goes and that's finally catching up with him. I didn't really mean it to be "darkfic" necessarily, but I guess it is a look down the dark side, like the cave, hehe. I kind of liked the idea of the Doctor as being this romantic antihero. His insanity is different though. What's the only way he can destroy himself? It's through Time and his conscious eating away at him. Something of a reversion. If that makes any sense.

I don't quite believe in it, mostly because he's been through an awful lot before that and I'm not convinced that Rose 'gave him feelings.' But maybe as a weird messed-up AU concept maybe? The idea of getting so fixated on her as the cause of all his woes sort of fits with when he blames stuff on the War and people dying of old age.

It's extreme though, yeah. It's a line I end up walking meself in fic, where something could be character assassination if it wasn't intended as a "wouldn't it be really nasty if..." It's full of weirdness like the shuddering in horror at Reinette and the collecting of girls that look like Rose and then letting them die for failing to be Rose. What's the real trigger in it all?

You know, it was meant to be a little bit of assination and a little bit of sympathy for a devil. I wouldn't call it AU but rather alt-fic. Wasn't really trying to get that Rose *gave* him feelings, rather was the thing that made him unable to deny a humanoid emotion any longer. He becomes somewhat suseptable to the pitfalls of humans; a little more human. So then, I take it to the extreme, yes, like a crackhead trying to kick the habit, he just replaced it with something else and becomes consumed by it. To sum it up, no one knows what the 12th Doctor will turn out to be like. Of course the Doctor would never be this depraved. It would sure put off a lot of parents! It's not sweet, cute, or clever but it was fun while it lasted.

Might just seem odd to me cos my thoughts are quick to jump to "but he did have feelings before" cos I write about his emo all the time? So it renders it a hefty emotional AU, for me. (She said, as though she didn't tend to use the Time War as an excuse for pretty much anything in fanfic.) Not so much the after as the before, if that makes any sense? I read it like he's lying to himself and there's something huge that's messed him up and we don't know what it is because the story won't tell us because he won't.
