The Doctor lifted Rose onto a flat table in the medlab. He touched her swollen ankle gently.

“Most people just walk around fire hydrants,” Jack teased.

The Doctor pulled the sonic screwdriver from his pocket and adjusted its controls. “There’s a pulse rate - ah, here - that will reduce swelling in human tissue.” He passed the blue end slowly over Rose’s injury. “Learn it.”

Jack leaned over to memorize the settings. “If you increase the frequency by a factor of three...”

“...it stimulates tissue growth. Very good.”

“Wonder what else it does,” Jack grinned. “Three speeds forward and two in perverse.”
