This is just a punk rock song

After watching the Jesus of Suburbia music video I came to a simple conclusion: Punk (anarchist etc) teens and young adults are everything that is wrong with society. Now this may seem extreme because even I know and love some people who are big fans of this 'culture' HOWEVER the following points, as described by Green Day (and I feel that they are fairly reliable as I've seen the same thing on whyte ave and though I'm not sure what kind of social commentary they are making with the video it did inspire me) lead me to my beliefs
A. The punk (and punk will henceforth be used to describe the hair shaping, tattooing, extensive make-up wearing, graffitti writing etc group) culture is very self-centered. Generally it is about what injustices have been done to them. How their parents are too strict, how teacher enforce too many rules, how they just want to be themselves and so on. There is no room in a functional society for such single-minded behaviour. As noticed in SLC Punk these people mainly focus on fighting and partying regardless of who is sacrificed. Those that try to stop their activities are seen as uptight and unliberated and so therefore those people are somehow lesser members of society.
B. Now I recognize that they do have friends that they most likely care about but if that friend is invovled in distructive behaviour what is done to stop them? In my experience, limited as it is, they are allowed to do what they want and are most likely trying to discover who they are so are allowed to carry on. Therefore no intervention, and that results in that person dying or becoming hospitalized. To use the old saying: with friends like those, who needs enemies.
C. It is also a culture of self mutilation. There is a certain look that is required to be a memeber of this society. This invloves gigantic ear holes, hair performing back-flips, tattoos all over and clothes that either barely cover (though moreso than Britney's wardrobe ever did) or are stategicly created with dental floss. Now these people have untapped creativity that never before has been able to come one but in all honesty this could be put to more productive uses. It seems that this culture's goal, in my opinion, is to become as ugly as possible hiding any true beauty that they may have under the layers and layers of face paint. Anything that is unnatural is good and any signs of your old skin and self is hidden as best as possible
D. Not only are they disrespectful of themselves but they are also disrespectful of any adult who tries to intervene or stop the rampage. This was particularly brought out in the music video. The boy would go into the bathroom in 7-11 and cover the walls with whatever he felt like writing. And when he was done it looked like everywhere that these people inhabit; covered in thoughts and pictures in no coherent way but an expression of themselves. There is no consideration of who this is inconveniencing and who will have to pay for their careless actions. Or maybe they do consider what they are doing and they are somehow sticking it to the man! Well basically these acts only increase the disrespect that society has for them, which may not be important to them but is essential in the proper functioning within the world
E. Perhaps an more appropriate concept for this article would be anarchy is everything that is wrong with the world. An idea that allows people to do whatever they want will not be as blissful as everyone imagnines. Some even think that after some rough times there will be this blissful utopia. WRONG and before this summer I didn't have a case study but Hurricane Katrina brought a perfect example. New Orleans during the clean-up progressed from a panic of trying to save lives to a looting, raping anarchist ho-down. There was nothing heroic about stealing everything in sight for no reason (it wasn't like they had a place to keep it). Futhermore there is nothing more disrespectful that rape. Taking advantage of a human being in that way is the lowest and most putrid thing a human can do to its own species. The fact that they were all fighting for their lives in the Astrodome made matters worse. Now those who were in New Orleans were not necessarily punks but they were certainly living the life of anarchy. Personally I think that everyone that wants an anarchist lifestyle should get their own remote island to do whatever they want on.
In conclusion, the combination of anarchy and ignorance of others is a deadly one. Not only do they not care who they harm but they don't care what rule it breaks or any of the causes, as long as it doesn't harm them. Now having hair in liberty spikes or wearing black eyeliner is not a crime but it seems that one perpetuates another. The running away from home leaving loved ones to worry only compounds the issue. Though I'm sure there are anarchists who feel that they can better the world outside of the government but for everyone of those there is 2 hardcores who "just want to rock and do whatever I want"

This is just my opinion and though I'm certain most people don't agree but I've done my observations and I've drawn some conclusions. Love it or hate it feel free to comment and as long as you attack the opinion not the person it will not be taken personally (obviously).
