Ray Bradbury passed away yesterday.  I discovered Ray Bradbury when I was twelve or so, when science fiction and fantasy began to really dominate my reading.  Ray's writing had a brightness to it, a touch of the whiz-bang quality of pulp science fiction, but with a darker side to it, a shadow to match the brightness.  He wrote tales about the ( Read more... )

Oh wow...... wow. :(((( I hadn't heard this. I had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Bradbury at the World Science Fiction Convention in Atlanta and was just awestruck. The Martian Chronicles is my favorite of his books. I have to dig it out every so often and read it again. To me, he was second to none in weaving a complex story, simple at glance, yet so very detailed and rich when one read deeper.

I came to the Bradbury library a bit late, just within the last couple of years. I really like SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES and FROM DUST RETURNED and THE HALLOWEEN TREE but I think my favorite was GRAVEYARD FOR LUNATICS which seemed normal but there's all this hidden stuff that you have to dig for. I mourn that I didn't get to know his writing better before he passed. THE ILLUSTRATED MAN is still on the shelf, somewhere far down on my reading list next to the collection of HP Lovecraft.
