”Smoked eel sounds lovely,” he says, perhaps more out of courtesy to her than actually being hungry. They take a seat at a little table and wait.
Absinthia is served a bowl of maggot sprinkles that she eagerly digs into with a spoon. Some of them stick to the corners of her mouth, and when he points it out to her she turns bright red and rubs

“You’ve travelled a lot, right? Where did you go?”
“All over,” he says, unsure of where to start. Absinthia’s questions are neverending, continuously making him remember things he thought he had forgotten, places that he enjoyed and places he didn’t.
“But isn’t it-“ She cuts herself off as she spots her father. “Oh, papa’s here. They must be done fixing the table.”
Relief is obvious in Grimm’s expression when he comes over, reaching out to trail his fingers through his daughter’s hair. “Would you prepare something for me too, Ingrid? A bit of the bread I’m smelling and uncooked meat?”
Jaspre’s eyes settle on Alejandro, who smiles in greeting. It is about time for him to leave. Honestly, he should have returned to pick up his things an hour ago and left, he realises after a quick glance at his pocket watch. “I’d better get going,” he says, and stands up. “The food was lovely.”

{That's alright, I was kind of distracted by House, anyway. And no, I haven't. Oh, I think what should happen is that he leaves after the next night's performance and goes to the next town, only to find out that the circus is performing there too.}

“You’ll come back tomorrow? To see the last show?”
He sighs, shakes his head, and smiles slightly at her. “I’m leaving for the next town tonight. I want to get a good headstart before dark falls, so I need to go straight away.”
“But…” She chews on her bottom lip, fidgeting, and looks up at him, then Alejandro.
“We’ll meet again, I’m sure. Travellers often do,” he assures her. He turns his gaze to the boy and sees sadness there as well, however strange that is. “If I’m ever in a town where you are, I’ll make sure to stop by.”
(House is a perfectly good excuse to be distracted. Which season? And yes, that sounds good :3)

{No idea. But he's hallucinating about Amber and there's a ballet dancer whose skin is peeling off and her lungs collapsed.}

A choked, sad sound nearly makes him stop. He hears soft sobbing, little noises of mourning laced with a Banshee’s touch, and realises that Absinthia is crying. It takes a moment’s effort to steel himself and keep walking.
(End of season five, I think. I remember that episode. It was freaky.)

{And it turns out he was hallucinating about Cuddy the whole time, right?}

(Yes! I love the start of season six :3 And it just dawned on me how many characters in that series go by their last names. Should we skip to the next night?)

{I should watch it. I don't remember why I stopped. And sure, maybe after we give this a little more closure?}

The sound of her sniffling has Grimm on his feet and walking towards them the moment they get there; he can always tell when she cries. It manifests as a dull ache in his spine, a crawling feeling that creeps up. “Sinny…What’s wrong? Are you hurt?” He gives Alejandro a grateful look and takes her, tucking her head under his chin.
“Did he do anything to make her cry?” His face darkens. “That man?”
(YES. You should! :3 Grimm is a teensy, teensy bit paranoid. Or just a whole lot.)

{That's okay. I think it's adorable. :3 I'm a sucker for single dad's. I thing I mentioned that before.}

Grimm deflates. ”Good…If he had done anything-“ The threat hangs in the air, unspoken. Even to his own ears it is a weak threat. According to logic, a man who saved his little girl would not have suddenly switched and tried to hurt her. Where Absinthia is concerned, however, logic is overshadowed by the frantic panic to keep her safe. “Sinny, dear, do you want anything?”
“Can I come watch Ale and Aliona practice?”
“Of course,” he murmurs, kissing the top of her head, sending Alejandro a questioning look.
(He's not a very good dad, but he tries hard. And yep, you did. There is something...strangely attaractive about them. I don't get it.)

He hasn’t left, like he was supposed to.
His things are packed, he is ready to leave, and yet there is something that stops him from setting foot outside the paid room with the backpack. Last night was all about tossing and turning in the narrow bed, staring up at the ceiling while thoughts buzzed inside his skull and raced.
Thoughts of Alejandro and Absinthia, their smiles when he let them dress him up, followed when he closed his eyes. He thought of the strong attachment those monsters had to each other.
He thought of Sullivan, of his emotional, naïve companion, and the glow of his smile when he visited only two weeks ago and saw how happy he was to be with Anton. Bonded, like lovers. His heart aches whenever he lets himself think of it and how lonely travelling has been without his company.
Jaspre paces back and forth from one end of the room to the other, pinching the bridge of his nose, trying to make sense of his emotions and thought without much luck. He hasn’t slept, and he’s hungry and restless. It’s a quarter to eight in the evening.
Cirque Macabre’s final show in Malgre will start in fifteen minutes.
The guilty conscience has stayed strong overnight.
He stops pacing. Resumes. Stops.
There are five minutes left when he reaches his decision. He puts on his boots, stuffs the jacket in the backpack and puts it on, then leaves, stopping briefly to pay the rest of the money he owes the owner.
He begins to walk in the direction of the circus.
(XD. I sort of noticed.)

"You'll be fine," Aliona tells him. "Maybe not spectacular, but everyone else will be, so it'll be alright. Do you want to switch acts with Grimm?"
"I think that would be a good idea," he says. He can't bear to go last and disappoint the crowd.
"Alright." Aliona leaves the costume tent to go find the illusionist, and Alejandro sighs and slumps in his chair, rubbing his temples with two fingers. What is wrong with him? He hasn't felt so off in... He can't remember how long.
