violence

Tima is going to talk about violence because this is the only subject that brazilians are talking about these days...

For those who don't know, I live in Rio de Janeiro, the called "wonderful city", in the southeast of Brazil. It's a sunny, warm, beachy and pretty place but at the same time, a crowded city. We have what we call "favelas" - communities of poor people that looked for a place near their work to live, but don't live there legally nor securely.

My city becomes each day more and more violent. We don't have problem with terrorism but with drug traffic and poverty.

A month ago a family was assaulted on an express avenue, full of cars, in the end of the afternoon. "No big deal" right? The woman stopped her car so the 4 guys could take the car without her and her children inside. The 13-year-old daughter was in the front seat and left the car to join her mother but her brother, a 6-year-old child was wearing his seat belt in the back seat, so the sister tried to release him.

The worst and grotesque comes now. The bandits (one minor age) didn't let the girl continue and left with the car like crazy..... the boy was still attached somehow to the seat belt, but out of the car... he was dragged through 7 kilometers! ....................

Other drivers yelled the bandits to stop the car because a child was hitting the road and the wheels... and one bandit just yelled back: he's my Judas! (omg... Judas?)

Nobory here can forget this... many discussions about the age to arrest people, crime penalty...

I'm soooo sick of hearing the news... really... Bush is coming.. let's see if some lunatic takes another extreme action =/
