- My second Harris show
- Harris' last show
The sequence of bands was bizarre-first there was Jericho Trumpet, a new local post-rock band "in the vein of Mogwai" and whose bassist is the little brother of Harris' lead singer (I'll be show to follow them); then an upcoming band Thick as Thieves which just released their first single; then there was Scamper, which reunited a year after their breakup for one show only; and then there was Harris, whose last show was today. So that's a birth, a rising, a resurrection and death, and a death, all in one night.
As bummed as I am that Harris is breaking up (and that I was only ever able to see two of their shows, stupid 18+ limitation), I cannot complain about an hour and a half straight of their songs. And I don't revel in the indie cred by seeing their shows as much as I despise how obscure they are anymore, since their entire library was so good and I don't know anyone else who listens to them.
The montage of them playing Captain and inviting everyone onstage alone was worth it, with the entire basement packed and singing along with them (to a riff which when I first heard it I described as 'juvenile', but it would've been impossible not to appreciate it then). And they ended with New Color, which was perfect and amazing.
And then everyone made them do an encore, and they only had one mediocre song left. ("I love leaving the crowd with that '...Eh.' feeling.") But nobody blamed them.
So apparently they had a CD back in college with songs I've never heard, one of which they played tonight ("Running Shoes!") Guess I'll have to author another embarassing Myspace message asking them to share before they go entirely belly-up.
