Trump's legal team on the "citizenship question" case regarding the U.S. Census is in such tatters -- its reputation before the court shredded, Trump wanting them gone for losing the case -- that Trump ordered their removal and a new team put in place.
Fortunately, it is the COURT which has the say over that. When a case is too far along, court rules actually discourage clients from changing attorneys. It is immensely time-consuming to do so, and far too often clients will demand a switch in representation just to delay justice. Courts frown on that!
Courts hold attorneys accountable for what's said in court. Attorneys are officers of the court, technically. They serve the cause of justice, not clients, technically. It's tempting for new attorneys to say, "Well, your honor, I don't know what my predecessor said/agreed to/screwed up, but I say..." NOPE! Courts don't permit that.
It's highly unusual for a court to approve a switch in legal counsel. Especially when the reason is "we're losing and I want a team that will win".
