The Devil and Mr. Barrett
Hopeful news from Wisconsin: Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett received 665,436 votes in the Democratic primary (which he won). Fascist anti-labor Governor Scott Walker got just Walker's 626,538 in the GOP primary -- despite spending $21 million and with a massive push by conservative radio and TV hosts to try to push up his numbers.
This is no guarantee that, in the June 5 general recall election, these numbers will hold up. Turnout in the general election will be MUCH higher. But it is a hopeful sign.
Walker has pulled in another $25 million -- mostly in big-money donations from out-of-state conseratives (like the Koch brothers). Barrett has no hope of matching that, but his ground campaign is much more solid. We'll see if Wisconsinites are willing to sell their state's soul to a bunch of Texas fascists and out-of-state robber barons.
