Whitney Houston dies a cold, lonely death

Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48. Early reports indicate a drug overdose, or complications from extensive and deep drug addiction.

A lot of people are saying it's very sad that she's dead.

I don't think so. What's sad is that, about a decade ago, Whitney Houston decided to throw away a golden voice and her career in order to snort, inhale, drink, inject, and smoke every drug known to mankind.

Her death just makes me mad. Mad that she'd do that. Mad that, despite a wonderful upbringing and tons of support, she decided to throw it all away. Mad that she had tens of millions of dollars, and refused to seek out drug addiction counseling and help.

It's not a tragedy. A tragedy is when something bad befalls someone who is good, or when something bad happens despite all the best intentions and efforts in the world. Whitney Houston made a choice to do drugs. And she chose to stay on them. That is not a tragedy, and it is not sad. It is merely stupid.

This is what stupidity does to your voice:

Huge accolades will be foisted on her in the coming few days, especially during the Grammy awards.

I cannot help but notice that, despite seven studio albums and three movie soundtrack albums, she got only six Grammys. The way people will talk over the next 10 days or so, you'd think she had won 50 Grammys.
