Jason Behr looks like shit these days.
Here is an actor who shot to fame in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a young man dying of brain cancer who seeks to become a vampire so that he can live. Only, it doesn't work that way... His despair and grief are so palpable in the episode ("Lie to Me") that you almost weep.
Rumors swirled endlessly about his sexuality.
He next did the 'tweener hit Roswell, about alien teenagers left to fend for themselves in an American high school. Its endless plot twists so left the audience behind, and the show died.
Behr seemed to make the decision that he had to quell rumors about his butchness. He did a single gay-themed film, Rites of Passage (1999), in which he was so terrified that his character might be gay (he was intended to be!) that he "de-gayed" the film. Behr's character is supposed to passionately kiss other men, hold hands, embrace, etc. Well, you won't see that from him! (Jaimz Woolvett's performance was the linchpin of the effort in the end.)
What as Behr really done since Roswell? Little of consequence. He hasn't been on television since Roswell died in 2002. His last major film was 2004's The Grudge (Sarah Michelle Geller got him the role in that). He's done seven films since -- two of them direct-to-DVD crapfests. He hasn't even made a film since 2008!
Perhaps instead of muscling up, adopting a mega-hetero pussy-hound attitude, and abandoning all pretense of acting, Jason Behr should have continued with the exceptional acting he displayed on Buffy? Ya think?
