The Washington Post today revealed that the FBI agents broke American law thousands of times during the George W. Bush administration by gathering the phone records of thousands of American citizens -- lying to telephone companies that a "terrorism emergency" existed where none did, and then covering up the crimes by having FBI headquarters issue after-the-fact approvals for the records seizures.
Worse: Many phone companies just turned the records over as their "patriotic duty," refusing to protect their customers at all.
The Post's investigation revealed that the FBI illegally collected telephone call records on more than 2,000 U.S. citizens between 2002 and 2006. The amount of telephone records collected so so voluminous that it overwhelmed the FBI's communications analysis unit with work.
Later analysis of the phone records reveal that NONE of the requests were related to imminent threats. FBI agents just simply couldn't be bothered to go through proper channels, or obtain their evidence legally.
That's your government at work! No respect for law. No respect for the Constitution.
Think fascism can't happen here? You are wrong.
