In praise of fandom

Jan 30, 2013 10:04

My daughter, despite all her nerdy and geeky credentials, has never had a fandom of her own. Sure, there were things she enjoyed, and she enjoys being around fans. But her very own fandom, where she could flail, spazz, geek and generally react to things way in excess of its true importance in the scheme of global affairs, in the company of other people also overreacting? Never had it. But she has lately become a Les Miz fangirl, and it's so cute! Her motivation level and socializing has jumped, and it's because being in a fandom means not just the thing or person you like, but the people who like it along with you. And that connection is precious!

And thinking about that, and the tempest in our tiny teacup we had yesterday, I just want to say that all of you in our little gaijin WE ikemen fandom are precious to me. Seto fans, D-BOYS fans, D2 fans, D☆DATE fans, Tomo family, Shirota fans, the 2 or 3 other Patch fans.... Well, I'd better not name each sub-fandom or this post will need an LJ cut! Anyways, no matter what our differences, let's always stay friends.

I don't have a good jpg. for this post, so I'll just give you cookies instead.
