Chapter One.

Dean enters the dingy motel room with the hideous floral wallpaper and undistinguishable musky scent and he eyes his brother who is staring intently at his laptop.

‘Hey dude.’ Sam glances up from the laptop and greets Dean.

‘I hope you’re looking at porn and not doing research.’ Dean smirks and Sam merely rolls his eyes in return.

‘No I am not looking at porn, I’m trying to figure out why Cas has sent us here.’ Sam replies impatiently before sighing heavily.

‘I know he is one cryptic son of a bitch.’ Dean groans and then continues ‘What are you looking at anyway?’

‘I’m just seeing if there has been any unusual deaths or disappearances in the Tree Hill area.’

‘And did you find anything?’ Dean enquired before sitting himself down on one of the single beds.

‘Nope. Nada.’ Sam replied while closing the top of his laptop.

‘Great, so we’re supposed to just sit around here like sitting ducks.’ Dean states dully and Sam’s gaze suddenly falls onto the clutch bag that Dean is holding.

‘Dude, why do you have a woman’s bag?’ Sam raises his eyebrow and looks at Dean suspiciously.

‘Oh this? C’mon Sammy what do you take me for, a thief? A cross-dresser?’ Dean exclaims when he notices Sam’s suspicious reaction. ‘No, I was in the middle of hooking up with some girl and she dropped it just before she went M.I.A.’

‘M.I.A?’

‘You know missing in action.’ Dean explains and looks at Sam as if he’s dumb.

‘No I know what M.I.A means I just wondered what you meant.’ Sam suddenly narrows his eyes. ‘Do I even want to know what you meant?’

‘Let’s just say she totally cock blocked me.’ Dean replies bitterly at the memory.

‘Oh, she rejected you.’ Sam starts to laugh and Dean scowls in his direction.

‘No, she just got all frigid and left.’ Dean retorts defensively.

‘So she did reject you.’ Sam reiterated with a smirk.

‘Sammy, shut up.’ Dean throws a pillow in Sam’s direction to silence his brother’s laughter.

‘So what do you plan to do with her bag?’ Sam asks after he regains himself.

‘Well she lives in Tree Hill, so I thought it’d be polite to return it to her.’ Dean says with a shrug.

‘Whatever Dean. You’re not that kind of guy. She was totally hot wasn’t she?’

Brooke runs through the hospital doors at high speed. She needs to get to Lucas and find out how Peyton is. She is silently praying to God that her best friend will recover because she doesn’t think she’ll be able to live with the guilt if Peyton dies. Especially considering that forty eight hours before she was having fast, passionate sex with her fiancé.

Brooke never tried to pretend that she was a good person but she always saw herself as a completely loyal friend. But she knows from personal experience that when Lucas came into the equation, all bets were off.

Four years ago she’d let him go so he could be with Peyton and she’d quickly become a footnote in the romance of Peyton and Lucas.

She didn’t appreciate that, however she’d gotten used to it and plastered a smile upon her face while immersing herself in her work. Life had moved on and in some ways, so had she, but then he told her that he missed her everyday and that if she hadn’t let him go he wouldn’t have left.

So in a total moment of weakness (She’d just lost her foster daughter and the boyfriend she couldn’t commit too because of Lucas.) she’d fell into his arms like the selfish, horrible person that she felt she’d become.

She found that he was everything that she’d remembered and more. He knew exactly how she wanted it and she’d memorized every inch of his body as if they’d last made love yesterday. But then morning broke and awkwardness immediately ensued.

He was going back to Peyton; He always went back to Peyton, and Brooke was left picking up the pieces she thought she’d fixed years ago.

Brooke shakes off the memory as she finds him in the waiting area, he’s in a crumbled heap on the floor and he‘s sobbing uncontrollably.

‘Lucas!’ Brooke crouches down next to him and tenderly puts her hand upon his. She’s just reassuring him but he flinches harshly away from her.

‘Don’t touch me.’ He demands and his icy blue eyes are filled with anger.

‘Is she going to be okay?’ Brooke chooses to ignore his coldness and remains calm as she fights back hot tears that are begging to be released.

‘No, Brooke. She’s not. I’m going to lose her.’

‘No, you don’t know that.’ Brooke’s voice begins to break and the tears force entry out of her eyes and spill out hotly onto her face.

‘They’ve just delivered our child, a daughter. Did you know that she wanted to name her Sawyer Brooke.’ He ignores her comments and spits out her name as if it’s a dirty word. She feels her stomach and her heart tie up into a messy heap of knots and she’s trying to fight back the bile that’s rising in her throat.

‘Oh.’ She manages to hiccup out as she silently cries.

‘Oh?! Is that all you can say? You betrayed her and she’s going to die and all you can say is Oh!’
The angry words slip out of his mouth easily and it’s breaking her heart because she knows that he’s right.

Luke…I…’ She doesn’t have any other words to say and she looks away from him. She knew that he betrayed Peyton too, they both did, but she can’t muster the energy to remind him that; besides she’s sure he’s probably well aware of that fact.

‘Just go Brooke. Leave.’ He requests sharply and she begins to shake her head furiously.
‘No Lucas. I need to be here.’

‘You’re not welcome, leave Peyton to die in peace.’

‘Luke, I’m going to say goodbye to her, she’s my best friend.’ She pleads and she’s looking into his stone cold glare and trying to reason with him.

‘I promised her that I’d be here for you and the baby if anything happened to her and I’m not going to break that promise.’ She’s firm now but he’s moments away from shattering her again.

‘I bet you’d love that wouldn’t you. Leave Brooke. I don’t need you and neither does my daughter. Leave before I demand that security throw you out.’ He hisses and she recoils away from him.

‘Okay.’ She backs away from him slowly and the agonizing pain begins to surge throughout her whole body. She turns away from him and walks through the hospital door and out into the night; the southern summer breeze causing her hands to feel clammy and hot. Suddenly she opens her mouth and lets out a loud blood-curdling scream as the pain tears through her and she’s willing her breaking heart to stop beating.

-

‘Dean.’ A familiar voice says steadily and Dean turns round and faces the dark haired angel.

‘Well it’s about time. So are you going to tell Sam and I why you made us drive a 1000 miles without so much as a clue as to why.’ Dean asks Castiel while giving him an unimpressed look. He was sick of being Heaven’s bitch boy whilst being told nothing in the process.

‘It is vital that you do exactly what I tell you too, no questions.’ Castiel says coolly.

‘Cas --’

‘There’s a woman in Tree Hill that you need to find before the demons do. She’s a vital necessity in saving the world from the impending apocalypse.’

‘How so?’ Sam curiously interjects.

Castiel sighs ‘Just find her and the other angels and I will do the rest. There is no need for either of you to know any more.’

‘Look Cas, You either tell us exactly why you need this girl or me and Sammy hit the road. It’s your call.’ Dean tells the angel impatiently.

‘Dean, this is no time to be flippant.’ Castiel’s voice remains calm and it annoys the hell out of Dean how emotionless he is.

‘Exactly. So it’s either our way or the high way.’

Dean notices a small flicker of doubt in Castiel’s eyes and he knows that he’s won and that Cas is going to reveal the information that he is with-holding.

‘This woman has been chosen to save the world if Lucifer should ever rise. It is written that ‘She who possesses the power and the ability to save the world from the fallen angel and all the dark ones.’ The dark ones meaning the demons.’ Cas explains.

Dean and Sam share a look of sheer exasperation before Sam speaks.

‘So what is the point of us and all the other hunters if one woman is able to save the world.’ Sam enquires as he takes in the information he’s just been told.

‘Because her powers only became active once the seals started breaking. Plus she has no idea what she is or how to fight.’

‘Oh that’s great isn’t it. We’ve got a regular old ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ on our hands.’ Dean quips sarcastically.

‘This is not a suitable time to be sarcastic. You need to find her and we’ll take over from there.’

‘What’s her name?’ Sam asks before Dean can throw another smart mouthed comment.

‘Brooke Davis.’ Castiel informs the brothers and Dean’s face goes completely white.

In sheer aghast Dean says aloud to no-one in particular. ‘You have got to be kidding me.’
