The majority of my immediate family have been passionate fans of The Wire for a couple of years now, the DVDs being lent back and forth from my dad to my sister Tiny pretty much continuously during that time. I found it rather hilarious that Heimdall as black is what some people apparently find beyond belief. In a movie where the Nordic gods are really aliens. Yeeeeah. The black guy is the biggest change from the original then, totally. *eyeroll*

And not like the Nordic gods couldn't change their appearance either - Loke and Odin come to mind right away. Blah. I hate racists co-opting Nordic mythology in general.

Exactly - also, as you say, shapeshifting (both bestial, genderbending, age, the list goes on) is a quite integral part of Norse mythology, so stupid racists can't even educate themselves on what they're "defending".
