You're probably sick of my blurry screencap spams, so I thought for once I could offer a real honest-to-God TOS pic spam. With, you know, proper photos.

Not for the faint of bandwidth )

sunday treat, rambling: tv, flavour of the month, perdy, geekery, pic spams, squeeage, tv/movies: star trek

I have come across stories about Shatner being a total asshole to Kelley, and the thought genuinely upsets me.

Well, it seems like Shatner was kind of an asshole to everybody, but not necessarily out of actual malice. I saw a recent-ish interview (I wish I could remember where the YouTube link was, because it was quite amusing) where Shatner and Nimoy were talking about their Star Trek days, and they told this long story about how Shatner was sooo irritated that Nimoy would ride his bike to the lunchroom/cafeteria/whatever, because it meant Nimoy always got there ahead of everyone else. So they talked about all the ways Shatner tried to deprive Nimoy of his bike. One time he hid the bike in his dressing room with his Rottweilers guarding it. Another time, if I recall, he used ropes to pull it up into the rafters while Nimoy was away. A third time, he hid it in his car. (Uh, I think that's called theft?)

And in the interview they're telling this story together, and they're both laughing, and pouring water for each other, and Nimoy keeps interrupting to point out that Shatner is really not a nice person, but he seems genuinely amused about it all.

So, anyway, I know I would not be amused if someone were playing those kinds of pranks on me, but apparently Nimoy took it in stride, and it seems evident that Shatner never meant any real harm. He's just a really obnoxious guy. I'm not sure he can even help himself. And so while I suspect he probably was an asshole to Kelley, I think Kelley probably understood that it was just Shatner being Shatner. (Of course I have no real basis for this opinion except that I can't imagine Nimoy or Kelley would have remained friends with him for all those years if he was really such a jerk. So there you go -- one more dubious source for you. ;)

And those are just my personal pick of the series, I keep coming across more - I've got three or four others so far.

OMG. WANT. Would you perchance be willing to share them? Pretty please?

The ongoing bike prank is a pretty endearing story actually XD That seems more like good friends fooling around to me. But Shatner seems to just lack a few filters when it comes to people he doesn't have that kind of relationship with (the whole Takei drama, various guest actors who thought he was tremendously petty and inconsiderate on set, etc.), but I'm not very informed on these things. When I come across unpleasant stories I try not to read them.

But you're right, Shat doesn't strike me as a malevolent person, more like just Shatner being Shatner. After what I've seen of him and Nimoy together, it seems like Nimoy dares to call him out on it and rein him in as it were, perhaps that's one of the reasons why they're such close friends.

Would you perchance be willing to share them? Pretty please?

Your wish is my etc. :D

Yeah, this also is my policy. He's a jerk, I accept it; I don't need the details. Apparently Nimoy and Kelley liked him anyway, so I'm going to assume he had some redeeming qualities too.

EEEEEE Thank you! :D *saves*
