So, my regular readers probably remember that we got Real Winter this year, much heavier than what is typical of my climate. I was very determined to enjoy the January snow while it lasted because I didn't expect it to last more than a week - and then the snow malted and got rained on and it snowed again, but the ice on the ground lasted for a whole month, so the uncleared areas weren't safe to walk on. Ouch!
And then early next week we finally got warmer weather, but the ice in the shadier areas was melting so slowly that I was afraid it would take it a whole week (or even more) to melt completely - until it started to rain.
And so it took two or three rainy days for that most stubborn ice disappear, as you can see in the second photo.
2 February, the view from my balcony (yes, I have already posted this photo once before)
10 February, after the rain from the night before transitioned into snow - and that new snow was already melting in the late afternoon.
I went out in the early evening and discovered that there were still occasional remnants of that show here and there, so I could leave my footprints on those snowy places, and it felt somehow strange. And then it was all gone on the next day, although the weather had become colder again.
And it was even colder today, but guess what - I saw a frog early this evening! Unfortunately, I didn't have mu camera with me. I specially went to look at one of those bus stop signs, and it said 1C, which is just a little bit above freezing. I wonder if that's why that frog was walking so slowly, or it was just its idea of being cautious. :)
I still feel very relieved that I can walk safely on ice-free ground everywhere now. :)
