Ouch!

Guess who managed to fall on the sidewalk and get her knee badly skinned yesterday. :P And I thought that was my most stable pair of slippers sandals, but maybe their soles had gone a little worn out at last? Well, now we know that running to catch the trolley bus wasn’t a very wise thing to do. :P

I got a little bit of “decoration” on my face too, very superficial but convincingly scary to strangers. :P It’s good that I work from home and don’t have to go out much until that heals. There is a bit here and there on my left arm too, but that’s not very obvious against the background of my knee and face. Those new sidewalk tiles seem to have a very abrasive surface. *sigh*

The most interesting part of the whole “adventure” was when the kind lady who came to see how I was while I was still lying flat on the ground after  fell turned out to be a former teacher at my high school, and had even taught me a little, and lives in the building next to mine! So we took the next trolley bus together, and I managed to scare two other ladies with my bloody face and had to explain to them that it wasn’t as bad as it seemed to calm them down. :) I just washed all my injuries with soap in the shower and then disinfected them with a bit of rakia (ouch!) because I had nothing else at home. My doctor said that I had done the right thing when I got to see him today.

My knee was still bleeding and a little and oozing lymph (is that the right word?) each time I moved from my chair or bed. My doctor gave me a tetanus shot today just to be on the safe side, and treated the wound on my knee with a disinfectant that made it ooze even more. Then the neighbour lady came to my rescue in the evening, and brought me a powder that absorbs all that lymph and helps form a protective crust over the wound. Then my mother returned from the farm and it occurred to her to look at the expiry date of that powder because “they don’t make it anymore”. It was in very small and pale print, but she took out her magnifying glass, and we discovered that it said “March 2001”. Now I’m going to die, LOL. Seriously, that stuff does seem to help.

And now that my knee hurts less if I don’t move, and my face almost doesn’t hurt, I’m going to bed because I didn’t manage to sleep much last night/morning. Ugh, I can’t throw a blanket or anything over that knee. I didn’t ask the doctor for a bandage because I can’t bear anything touching it.

And no, I’m not taking any photos. :P
