Back and forth

Mar 31, 2013 19:26

We had a few way too warm days in early March, and some of the the fruit trees started going into bloom too early in the year.

And then we briefly returned to full-on winter, and the rest of the March was mostly late-winter cold. But the almonds, apricots and cherry plums stubbornly kept going into bloom at various speeds.

March is supposed to be crazy here, but I think it was crazier than usual this year.

(london1967, you will have to wait a little for the later cherry plum series because I haven't managed to edit those photos yet).

A baby cherry tree (not in my neighbourhood) just beginning to go into bloom on 14 March. (I saw one more advanced as early as 12th, but it was too late in the evening for me to take decent photos, and then I forgot where it was. ) To my surprise, this tree was still in bloom last evening, but it was already too dark for my camera again.

Oops, this is not a fruit tree. :) The sign is of some hairdresser's called "Illusion" in English, but in Cyrillic transcription. :D

An almond tree in full bloom (still 14 March).

And then it snowed on the night of 15-16 March. i took these photos through the window.

The peach tree in front of our balcony was all covered in snow, but when the snow melted in the morning, its buds started to open as if nothing had happened.  My eternal enemy the neighbourhood wind wouldn't stop moving the branches, so most of my photos from the next days were hopelessly blurry.

This photo is from 18 March.

19 Marh. The difference a day makes.

20 March: a cherry plum tree in one of those few rare moments when we saw the sun.

That same apricot tree from below, with a bonus cloud..

I accidentally captured the moon (while it was still day!) between the blooms (in the left... not quite top pat of the photo).

The segment with the moon enlarged as best I could with IrfanView. It creeps me out a little, but at least the moan is clearly visible.
