That was AMAZING.

Right, so yesterday was the Rice vs. SMU game. The MOB was, of course, required to be there. So I decorated my hat (with a large dinosaur, to match the tie) and we had the ceremonial walk to the field. In true mobster fashion, this of course required that the SAs have (prop) guns to protect the band director and drum minor, as well as block the road as the band marched on (the drums set off several car alarms).

Then we got in and did our pre-game show, ran out with the big huge ginormous flag and waved it (it involves kneeling and really takes at least 10 people to do), then got in the sprit line and made an SA pyramid. I foolishly volunteered to be on bottom, but I'm glad to know that my other bottoms were also having trouble with the six or so people on top of us. Anyway, good fun.

Then finally the break for water (sweet, sweet water) and the MOB sets up between the student section and the SMU fans - apparently we're a buffer because we're "saner" (and, you know, representing the school in an official fashion) than the students.

SMU was leading for most of the first quarter, but in the last minute of it, Rice made two touchdowns. This began the long rush of "Louie" dances (apparently clips of them appeared on TV. Heeee.) and a really really fun experience. I know there were quite a few more touchdowns during the second quarter, but the SAs were setting up for halftime and unable to see much of it.

Also, it was amazingly hot yesterday. Add a three-piece suit and a mask to that, and you may be able to understand how much I was dying during the second quarter. Anyway.

We did our (Olympic-themed) halftime show, my mask kept almost falling off, but I got to run around the football field acting like a fool while our "Chinese laborer" did some flips and won himself a gold medal frisbee. I heard that it was hard to hear what the announcer was saying, which is a shame, because the script is where you get our setup. D:

Anyway. We cleaned up the field, sorted everything out and got it sent back to the band hall, then were finally able to come back to the stands (free sodas!) and enjoy the rest of the game. This is about where I stopped paying attention to the actual game, because we were having so much fun with our ridiculous dances. There's the "Bonnet" dance when you make a touchdown, and then we get to do our (somewhat infamous?) "Louie dance" when we make the field goal for the extra point, and then we have to do the jumping jacks for the number of points that we have....not to mention the other ridiculous songs. We had SAs randomly singing songs from Gilbert & Sullivan, and hat-swapping, and...

Oh! Once Rice's score hit 56, our band director did 56 pushups on his band stage. That was pretty funny, too.

Anyway, game ended eventually. We mingled a little bit with the SMU band (they looked nice, and they were nice people, too. I think they were a bit weirded out by us, though. I had facepaint on, too, so that might've been a bit disconcerting. XD)

Then I ran back for a quick shower, and the SAs went on a 59 Diner run! Wherein almost all of us got milkshakes because it was 1 in the morning and we were probably all still a little bit dehydrated, and talked a bunch. (I was one of the few people with a car, but I can't drive well when I'm exhausted, so I let our Fearless Leader drive it. What's sad is that he's probably one of the few sane ones.)

Looking back on this, it doesn't sound that great, but you didn't see the MASSIVE painted student section right next to us who cheered us on when we went onto the field. You didn't feel ridiculous and suave at the same time while you were wearing the pinstriped suit, cheap sunglasses, and ridiculously ornamented fedora. While wielding the PVC-and-wood sawed off shotgun to protect your drum major and band director. The adrenaline was really high, we were there to enjoy ourselves, and we DID.

(it helps that Rice won by a ridiculous margin. 56-28, or something like that)

D: No more game for three weeks, but MOB dinner on Monday, and practice Tuesday-Thursday! <33333
