we bought a new laptop for me to take to denver, when i was going to be out there helping dad. or actually... we bought a new laptop, but the laptop is totally mine :)
i ♥ it sooooooo much, with the exception of one thing: [expletive deleted] Vista operating system.
good god.
so, something "stops working" (say, something not all that important, like, oh, wordperfect, in which all of your documents are saved). so a little window pops up, and it says, 'wordperfect has stopped working. windows will look for solutions.' and then a few moments later, it pops up, 'windows can find no solutions.'
that was helpful!!!
so i go online, and i find out that yes, wordperfect often does not work with vista, because of a security setting that was set up when it was factory-installed on my computer (along with a whole ton of crap that i never wanted anyway and which is incredibly difficult to uninstall). can i reinstall vista? yes, but vista will not allow me to alter the factory-specified security settings. i can download something that will serve as a patch? okay... and yes, that is installed, which prompts vista to ask me, "do you really want to install this?" and i say yes, and then vista says, "someone is trying to install something. should they be allowed to proceed?" and i say yes, and vista says, "are you sure?" and i say some really unkind things about bill gates's mother.
so. we've ordered windows xp, which i understand will make this laptop "blazing." yes, that's good, because if it doesn't, then i may well just set the darned thing on fire.
i seriously love my laptop. why did it have to be shipped with this retarded operating system?
i mean, it's a widescreen... it's so shiny.... airplane-grade aluminum case, seriously sexy (although it makes my wrists warm and makes me feel like i might be going through menopause).
so yay laptop, boo OS.
and now i'm thinking, why do i need a desktop? it takes up so much room!!!
