what are the odds of BOTH my grandfathers ending up in the ER/being admitted to the same hospital in the SAME DAY?! Needless to say today was quite emotionally draining.
Neither one is in good health, and it turns out they both had to go in for similar reasons...my Papa Jim fell out of bed last night (actually 2am). My Nana woke me up as the paramedics arrived because he is basically dead weight when he falls...they checked all his vitals (which were pretty normal) and then said they would feel comfortable just putting him back in bed and leaving him at home...but then when they lifted him he was not able to work with them at ALL...so my aunt and Nana decided we should go to the ER. He was just in the hospital two weeks ago for an infection and now he's back. Marsha and I stayed in the waiting room for two hours while they did tests, then went home, tried to get some sleep, and I returned around noon...
My Papa Santos has been complaining of pain/unable to get himself up out of his chair/bed for the past week or so...but today it came to a head when my aunt and uncle couldn't even lift him up without him screaming. So they called 911 and the paramedics came, took him to the ER around the same time I was getting there this morning, and right as I parked my car I called my mom who told me he was there. I walked into the ER to be greeted not only by my Nana but my uncle Tony and Aurora...and as my Papa Jim was being taken out of the ER to get a catscan, I ran into my Papa Santos in his hospital bed in the hallway, waiting for a room...
Papa Jim may have pneumonia and another infection, and Papa Santos might have a hip or leg fracture. I just think this was the most bizarre thing...its not at all funny but I couldn't help but laugh a little when I had to call work to tell them I might not be in tomorrow because BOTH of my grandpas are in the hospital. I'm glad they believe me...that'd be a pretty extreme lie for a day off. Hmm.
