Drugged with Music

May 26, 2005 01:01

I have songs that are like drugs to me...I've always called them my "drug songs". You hear a certain song and it calms you...the instant you hear the first note you breathe in relief and satisfaction.

They're the kind of songs that you join mp3 sharing communities so you can request a song for a quick fix. As I did with the one I am listening to right now. I heard it on Six Feet Under last season, and then my brother played it while we were driving around in Brooklyn. I need you so much closer...

Speaking of drugs, my glands are swollen, my nose is stuffed like a fat guy on Thanksgiving, I lost my voice- perhaps my punishment for my last post (finding humor in fighting in sign language). Seriously, it's completely gone. The only way I sound normal is if I whisper, which is extremely frustrating, though still not as much as talking normally and not hearing anything come out of my mouth. I cannot swallow without needles poking my throat from the inside, I'm really weak and have slept most of the last two days- the worst part, is that I am all croupy. I can't breathe, and the humidifier or steamy hot showers aren't helping. It sucks. If I'm not feeling better tomorrow I will go to the doctor. I've said that the last two days, but I won't go unless I have to since I don't have health insurance. (I'm so not in the mood to get into health benefits being cut from Bush nor how fucked up our medical system is- and how taking care of our own citizens should be a top priority).

I'm just thankful I didn't get sick while in New York, this vicious virus hung out until the long plane ride home. You're supposed to count back three days from when you feel sick and that's when you caught whatever it is you have. So it could have been anything from partying in the City, the subways throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn, to running in the rain from the Metropolitan Museum to catch a cab in sandals. My guess is that it's probably the result of being run down, which is all too familiar. My highschool graduation night I came down with Mono (It was in my system but surfaced after being out all night at the grad party cruise). Though it wasn't just Mono, I had complications as well (hepatitis, strep throat, ear infection ON TOP of Mono!) Yes folks, I went down in the medical books. All the doctors hadn't seen a case like mine, only read about it. How wonderful. Those damn viruses just wait for the moment you get run down. I haven't really been terribly sick since then (in '97) and I haven't had a cold or the flu in years. Guess my time has come again. Bah.

I had a great time in the Big Apple. Does anyone know why it's called that? I looked it up a while back but cannot remember, and I dont have it in me to look it up right now. I took three memory cards of pictures, not as much as I usually would because I was also taking video shots. I got to see some friends ♥ ♥ and of course my brothers (Jeremy lives there, we stayed with him, and my other brother Benj flew in from Montana later on in the week). This wasn't going to be a post about my trip to NYC. I don't have the energy nor the desire to type about that. I'm gonna go snuggle with my baby on the couch. I'm not sure if she's happier to see me, or if I'm happier to see her. Oh the stories I bet she could tell from her week at doggie camp.

Anyway, what was my point? My drug of choice at this moment is music. Give me 10 minutes and it will be ice water and a cough drop, 20 mins will be Nyquil.

It's supposed to be a record breaking high tomorrow- 89 degrees for May 26th. Normally I'd welcome this, but instead of playing out in it, I'll be laying on the couch with the fan on me, gasping for air.
