I listen to music a lot on the radio to and from class, online, and from my CD collection...Here are some thoughts...
-< Green Day >-
This baffles me.
Here's a band that in my opinion has both the worst songs and the best songs played on the air. Here's my angle...
----Past Work----
Time of your life......Thumbs Up, Great song, A classic....
Minority........Annoying to the point of no return....
----Newer Stuff----
Boulevard of Broken Dreams....This song is good, it has a good mix, and nice flavor.....
American Idiot.....this single might as well be self-titled; Were they trying to sound that bad? The song must have been done a thousand times by much worse punk bands....
That's my opinion anyway...I know many people disagree with me...they are one of the few that are up for the Grammys in the rock category...I know they can do better though...
-< Coldplay >-
There are few bands that are of such quality that every song they produce gives a feeling of accomplishment and displays musical genius and simple goodness...
One of those bands is Coldplay.
So far, every song I have heard from them has great melodies. They have tremendous energy in their dynamics (esp. Amsterdam, and Everything's Not Lost). And their lead guitar, although often very simple, is genius in it's simplicity and sound...They have mastered mixing. The overall sound on the stereo is superb. Like other bands such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Dashboard Confessional, Our Lady Peace, others....Coldplay uses alternative guitar tuning to make songs have a different sound. Overall, they are one of my personal favorite bands, and they have the awards and reputation in the sight of others as well.
