Well, the experiment has come to an end.

I was rather hoping I’d go on doing a drabble a day until the start of NaNo, but something came up today that brought the drabble train to a screeching halt in favor of my novel. I’ll talk about it in a moment, but first, a recap of the whole drabble a day experience.

Writing time frame: September 16th through 28th.

Posting time frame: September 17th through 30th

Total writing time: 13 days

Days missed: 1, leaving 12 writing days

Drabbles written: 15, plus an alternate ending for one. Only one of these I thought was sub-par.

Drabbles posted: 14 as of today.

So, it was pretty good. I only missed one day of writing and the rest saw one or more written.

Okay, you may ask, what ended the experiment?

Well, I was tootling around in the kitchen as my daughter was doing dishes. She likes to play music on her computer as she does so, and one particular song caught my ear.

This one:

One Last Letter by SoundOfTheAviators
This is a MLP:FIM fan song.

Yeah, you got that. A My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fan song.

MY. LITTLE. PONY.

God, I want someone to write music like this for my novel. I want so badly to create something that inspires this kind of fan love. I was in tears listening to this the first time, realizing that it was a tribute to a cartoon. My daughter said, “Mom, you’re not an animator.” No, but I am a writer. I can work toward this kind of fandom. Maybe minus the crazies.

I’m still rusty at writing but I got over 800 words pounded out on the next chapter, as well as a piece of the previous incarnation slotted in and edited up. There are still some ideas and scenes to set in stone and I’ve been visualizing another scene. I’m going to sketch that out before bed.

God, it’s so good to be writing again.
