Но по нескольким пунктам Трамп уже уверенно переиграл Ромни:
1. Постоянно обещая финансировать свою кампанию из своих собственных средств, Трамп потратил на неё меньше $50 миллионов. При этом он сумел собрать около $80 миллионов от малых доноров ($200 и меньше) - почти в два раза больше, чем Ромни.

2. Трамп сумел единолично убедить республиканцев, что свободная торговля - это плохо.
Он сумел убедить в этом американцев, которые пользуются плодами свободной торговли каждый день, покупая дешевые товары из Китая или дешёвые продукты из Мексики.
3. Трамп по всей видимости сумел убедить 50 миллионов евангелистов, что прелюбодеяние - это не грех. Его уровень поддержки среди белых евангелистов (+70%: 82% против 12%) заметно выше, чем у Ромни.
Trump gave a revealing interview to reporters Esther Pessin and Bill Hoffmann for the February 23, 1990 issue of the Post. In it, he declared that adultery is not a sin and hinted at his own extramarital affair, almost urging the tabloid to reach the obvious conclusion.

Trump leads by a wide, 82-12 percent margin among white evangelical protestants, slightly wider than Romney's 78-21 advantage in 2012. Clinton dominates among voters with no religious affiliation, leading by more than 3 to 1 (66 to 18 percent), a similar edge as Obama in 2012 (70-26).

5. В 2012 демократический сенатор Гарри Рид написал в официальном заявлении:
There is a controversy because the Republican presidential nominee, Governor Mitt Romney, refuses to release his tax returns. As I said before, I was told by an extremely credible source that Romney has not paid taxes for ten years. People who make as much money as Mitt Romney have many tricks at their disposal to avoid paying taxes.

The public has a right to know this information. I wrote to you months ago calling for this information to be released to the public. There is no danger to American interests from releasing it. And yet, you continue to resist calls to inform the public of this critical information.
