The Gong Show

OOps...

All of the parts of the daily schedule here are announced by a gong and when I'm not with Catherine I have no idea what's going on. I just heard the most recent gonging and thought it was lunch time (can't seem to find a clock either--strange, in Switzerland) so I logged off. It's hilarious at mealtimes because the school has such established ways of doing things. Even with all the kids and chaos there is an extremely orderly way that the dishes are stacked at the end of the meal and even the cutlery are arranged in a specific manner. Whenever I travel to another country or even when I'm in other regions US or visiting the home of someone from another country I expect for there to be different dining conventions. Here, though, it's even stranger because the Ecole has its own bizarre culture and it takes a while to adapt. After the meal gong there are three minutes of silence for some mysterious reason and before the gong (I think that maybe the ring it twice), we have to stand. The food here is totally wacky.
