They disappear from the public eye as quickly as they can, coming out only for testimonies and funerals. The last anyone sees of Tobias, he's flying away with Rachel's ashes; her family never forgives him, though as they grow older, her sisters understand. Cassie finally begins charities and programs for survivors and the environment, while Marco hides his pain with partying and becoming an entertainment mogul. Ax goes home. And Jake - Jake struggles the most. He tries out a dozen things and none of them fit, and sometimes, he calls Marco or Cassie panicking and in tears, sure it's just another trick by the entities that never stopped fiddling with them like chess pieces on a board that spans the cosmos.
But time passes. They live. They don't wake up.

Prompt: Kings, Jack/+David, three possible futures
There is a king, sitting on a throne.
He is a good king, God's chosen, anointed by the prophet. He was once a simple soldier, who saved a prince. He led the people in a revolution, beloved by all those without power.
He is a good man, this king, crowned with butterflies.
.
There is a king, sitting on a throne.
He was raised a prince, and while the people loved him, and the soldiers, most of the government thought him useless. He was the party prince, irresponsible and spoiled. He fought and it never mattered; when it came time, not even his mother chose him.
But he is king, now. He is king, on a throne stained with blood, and beside him, there is a simple soldier who once saved his life, whose life he has saved, and there are crimson butterflies in the air.
No prophet anointed him, but God's chosen has made his choice.
.
There is a king, sitting on a throne.
Once, he had been God's favored. To have that stricken from him now - and for a peasant boy (much like he had been, once, but those days are long gone). To have a failure for a son, and a daughter who dared choose the traitor...
But he can save this. Can turn it all around. Take his granddaughter, take whatever child his useless son gives that pretty girl - yes. What God has torn asunder can be mended.
There is no prophet now.
There is, however, an army building, led by a simple soldier; there is a prince who no longer prays; there is a princess who begs God while her body grows.
There are butterflies, a throne stained with blood, and change on the air.

Prompt: Any superhero/s, any fandom. What a statue to our greatness, what a story all will tell; They'll remember us forever, they'll remember where we fell.
It's a story they all know, everyone who lives in Brooklyn. Not just because of the memorial, the statue, the Remembrance Garden that blooms every spring. Not just because of the holiday or the songs or the movies made every few years.
That's why they know the story in other places, the world over. But in Brooklyn, in Brooklyn they remember for other reasons.
There was a pair of boys, it begins, and they grew up in awful times. But they were good boys, doing their best. One had a pack of little sisters and the other a ma who died young.
There was a pair of men, it continues, who went to war. How they got there is where the story really begins.
In Brooklyn, there's a garden that grows sunflowers and rosemary and white roses. In Brooklyn, there's a memorial that honors the better part of a century. In Brooklyn, there are people who remember their names.
The world over, their deeds are praised, hundreds of years later. The hero who didn't like bullies and the hero who brought himself back, who died minutes apart saving the world from the mad titan that wanted to turn the earth to dust - the entire team is remembered. Only one of them survived and then he disappeared, Dr. Banner and his other half.
Russia claims the Black Widow, the United States Hawkeye and Iron Man and Captain America and Winter Soldier and Falcon. Thor was never the Earth's, and he went home, after.
But Brooklyn, Brooklyn remembers them as boys and as men. Not just what they became, not just what they survived.
Sometimes, the story goes, if you sit quietly in the garden, you can hear them. And don't cry, sweetheart. They wouldn't want your tears. They'd want your laugh.
In Brooklyn, they all know the story, and they tell their children, as their parents and grandparents told them, and even hundreds of years later, there are children sitting in the Remembrance Garden, talking about a smart-mouthed punk who didn't like bullies and the bright-eyed boy who followed him.

Prompt: any. any. They say he's a god. He does not contradict them.
To be perfectly honest, Methos misses the day of god-kings. He knows they'll come again, but not soon enough, in his opinion. He just hopes that when they do, the internet and AC remains, too, but even if they don't --
Well. He survived before, didn't he. He even thrived, a god and a king and rider of horses.
The children get younger every year, it seems, no matter the centuries that pass. They bleat about morals and right and truth, as though any of those things matter when night falls. Few of them have ever been gods, and even those were not gods like him.
A god-king with a herd of pale horses. Three people in all of history would've understood, and they are gone from his story now.
"Hey, Adam!" Joe calls as he walks into Joe's latest bar. MacLeod is away at a retreat and there's something rising in the air.
He's felt this before, is the thing. The world always warns when a nation is about to fall.
But he just smiles, fathomless and terrible as the ocean, taking the offered beer.
He misses the days of god-kings. And he laughs with Joe, waiting until he can shed all the years, mount the pale horse, and become a god again.

Prompt: Harry Potter, Harry Potter, someday they'll sing about his great deeds
Once, there was a man called Tom Riddle, named for the father he only met once, the day he killed him.
Tom Riddle renamed himself Voldemort and sought to rule the world.
He failed.
.
What does history remember?
What its writer allows it to.
.
Once, there was a man called Harry Potter. He was a son of heroes, raised as a servant and whipping boy, and he learned how to survive.
He was destined to be a hero. Or so he was told, by a conniving old man who wasn't nearly as clever as he believed.
.
What is the best way to win?
Make it look like you're trying to lose.
.
When the dust settles, Harry Potter is alive and Voldemort is not.
When the blood dries, Harry Potter is alive and Dumbledore is not.
When the war is over, Harry Potter is alive.
Well.
.
Harry Potter is a benevolent victor. He owes his life to Narcissa Malfoy, and the Slytherins are just children, and this is a time of healing, not of punishing.
With Hermione and Ron, with Neville and Luna, with Draco Malfoy - this is a time of change, the Man Who Lived announces, and with the government in shambles, he is hailed as the shining light.
.
Once, there was a boy in the cupboard under the stairs.
Once, there was a boy who asked for help and was slapped down.
Once, there was a boy who learned so very much indeed.
.
Luna is the first to ask. Draco never does.
.
What does history remember?
The better question is, what was never even forgotten because no one bothered to remember in the first place.
.
Once, there was a man called Albus Dumbledore. He is given barely a chapter in Hogwarts, a History because he was, after all, Headmaster.
Once, there was a man called Tom Riddle. He is given a paragraph in Dark Wizards of the 20th Century.
Harry Potter, though - he is remembered as the Man Who Lived, who led the magical UK back onto a world stage, who (with help from Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy) reformed the government into something equal and open to all.
The boy from the cupboard, in the end, won.
.
What does history remember?
His story.
