So, I’ve never liked the song ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Mis. Like, never. I’ve heard the original Broadway version (via CD), Susan Boyle, a local production, Rachel and her mom from Glee - and I haven’t liked any of them.
Then I heard Anne Hathaway in the Les Mis preview and I shivered. I’ve wanted to cry every time I see a preview for that movie because of how haunting that song is.
tigris_lilsis said it’s because Anne Hathaway is acting the song, not just singing it. She’s not doing the big, sweeping thing - she’s dragging that song down into her pit of despair, and it works. It really REALLY works.
And then I saw a little TV spot about the movie, and it turns out? That’s how every song in the movie is performed. Not lip-synching to previously recorded songs they did. No, they’ve performed every take live, so each song is acted.
Dudes. Les Mis is pretty much my favorite soundtrack ever. I can listen to pretty much every song over and over and over again.
This movie is going to kick ass.
