He doesn’t really fear a whole lot, never has. He looks into the shadows and knows what's there; since he knows, he cannot be afraid.
Or something like that. He doesn’t give it much thought. It’s just always what he’s known.
-
So, maybe he went through those phases. Afraid of the dark. Afraid of… um… dying? Maybe. Of course, he saw that some people don’t stay dead.
His childhood wasn’t conducive to fear, because he saw you could fight the unfightable and kill the unkillable.
He doesn’t fear fire(though he should) and he doesn’t fear water(because he feels safe, floating in nothingness). He doesn’t fear flying or tornados or storms. And earthquakes-well, he’s never experienced one(but he almost thinks it’d be fun). So, yeah-he doesn’t do fear.
After his life, he decided it was a waste of energy.
So the fact that he’s terrified out of his fucking mind? Should tell you something.
And if doesn’t? Maybe you deserve what’s coming to you.
-
See, he doesn’t fear death. Not anymore. Can’t. He knows it’s coming and he knows what’ll come after and he knows who’s waiting for him.
Dying will be a relief. Dying will let him leave.
(He hopes. Because he knows how angry spirits are born, and he cannot become what he’s fought.)
-
Okay. Honestly, he’s always had one fear. An abiding tremor of terror shooting through his body, haunting his dreams and his waking moments.
Well, not a fear. He knew it’d come true. So, what’s that, then? A vision?
Fine, for as long as he can remember he had a vision. Something that horrified and terrified him. Something he knew he couldn’t escape.
He doesn’t fear. He knows. There’s a difference.
-
But there is one thing he’s afraid of. He won’t admit it out loud because to speak it will make it happen.
One thing in a lifetime of no fear.
His nightmares always come true.
It just might take them a while, and Dean’d been on borrowed time his whole existence.
So if he’s terrified of closing his eyes at night and watching his brother die, well… don’t you think he can be forgiven for it?
He never wants to outlive his brother. To bury or cremate him.
But the alternative…
He doesn’t have it in him to wish that on Dean.
