House/Uptown Girls unfinished

I haven't worked on this since either December or January, can't remember.  I doubt anything more will ever come of it, so I toss it out here.

Robert has always been tone deaf; Neal hasn’t. Robert was raised by Mum and Dad’s shadow; Auntie Devon took Neal and ran, and Dad never risked getting all the bad press the scandal would ensure if he looked for them.

Robert and Neal haven’t stood face-to-face in twenty-five years. If they didn’t share the same, Robert would have forgotten what Neal’s looked like.

Mum started drinking the day Auntie Devon vanished with Neal. It was raining, a summer storm the likes of which he can’t remember, and Dad told her something(he can’t remember that, either), and the sober moments were few and far between after that.

Robert first hears about Neal Fox when he meets Dr. Allison Cameron. As they’re shaking hands, she asks, “Aren’t you that Australian one-hit-wonder?”

He raises an eyebrow. “Pardon me?”

She blushes prettily and says, “I must be mistaken. Never mind.”

The fellowship with House is the hardest thing Robert has done since Mum died. He works and works, trying his best, and it’s never good enough. He knows a large part of that is his own action, running to Vogler like a scared little rat, but shouldn’t all his attempts since that fiasco have made a difference?
