It gets easier every time. The greatest drug he’s ever had-and he’s tried them all. It hums through his skin, sings in his soul, and heats up his blood with the desire.
Nothing can stop him. He can do anything, be anything-and no one has the power or knowledge to halt his actions.
He rides the high for days, soaring over the clouds, approaching the summit-he thinks he has nothing left, but then more is found, endless, boundless. It feels like fire, like water, like wind-beneath it all, is the earth, singing him home.
And he hears it calling, the siren in his blood. Even if he wanted, he can’t turn away. He is insatiable, ever desiring more. He feels-something else, something-familiar… and he follows the pull to an old man, ancient before his time. Tired, weary, wanting a rest… but invincible. Unable to fade.
And the old man tells his story, of the families and the power, of willing gifts away. And the old man whispers the words, “I will my power to you… my son.”
And the old man dies as his power swirls through his forgotten heir, plunging him over the cliff and straight into madness.
It’s so easy, so alluring, so damn hard to stop-
Addictive doesn’t begin to cover it.
