(no subject)
welps, i'm back in warm sunny california! wait, what happened to the sun? oh well, atleast its not cold.
spain was really pretty, but so freakin' cold! it wavered around freezing in madrid, tho it was a bit warmer in barcelona. this girl we met at the airport said that it was the coldest its been in 20 years! lucky us.
i really wanna go see people today, but its the first and i'm sure people are busy with their families and i don't wanna bug 'em. in an hour or so we'll go pick up comet :) :) :) i've missed that warm furry creature! i can't wait! too bad i'll only get to see him for a few days.
alice is coming up on the 3rd, so i'll get to see her for a bit too. but i've only got a few days up here, so i have to squeeze in everything i want and need to do. she made reservations at this nice french restaurant up in sf that we tried to go to last time she came up, but i don't think my parents will be thrilled - we spent so much money in spain, and i spent so much over the semester - *sigh*
my mom just got my backpack open, which i stupidly locked with the key inside. so now i just have to wrap the gifts and they'll be ready to give =] i hope i get to see everyone...
oh, and the guy who found my wallet said he mailed it up, but we've been in spain, so i still haven't gotten it back...and my mom said if he fed-exed it, then they'll mail it back to him within 3 days, so *sigh* i guess i won't be seeing it for a while. but we're going to the post office tomorrow to get our mail, so maybe it'll be there.
anyways, about spain, we flew to madrid on the 23rd, arrived there on the 24th, around like 7 am, so were were like dead for the rest of the day. christmas we took a train to barcelona, and since everything was pretty much closed, we just vegetated the rest of the day in our hotel room. which by the way was really really nice! we spent the next few days in barcelona, visiting cathedral and stuff, then took a night train back to madrid. again we arrived at 7am, and since the train was too uncomfortable to sleep in, we were all exhausted. so we crashed until the afternoon sometime, when we took a halfday trip up to toledo. we spent the next three days or so wandering around madrid. it was kinda nice - i didn't take alot of pictures, but the pictures i did take will be up whenever i go back to boston.
haven't really been doing much else - when we got back last night we went to a new years party at a friend's house. woke up this, pretended to be an indian for a bit and actually went to the temple. its actually rather organized, for indians! there's this guy there, sanjeev or sanjit, or something of that sort, who recognized me from mit - weird! apparently he's a friend of my cousin's and my cousin pointed me out to him once, so when he saw me at the temple, he came over to say hi. i was just kinda weirded out by a total stranger knowing that i go to mit and who my cousin is, so i didn't say much - he probably thinks i don't know how to speak or something. it bugs me that i'll probably never see him again. i hate meeting people and then never seeing them again, 'cause its like, what's the point of even meeting them? but then, in alot of ways, that's safer.
so my new years resolution is to never take another family vacation. its so incredibly frustrating traveling with parents! people only come out at night in madrid, but my parents always wanted to go back to the hotel around 9ish, and they wouldn't let me stay out by myself. the city is so much more interesting with people around! i definitely want to go back, perhaps on my own or with friends, but that was my last family vacation. and hopefully i'll get to go to italy next summer, without family - that should be fun. i also found the real reason behind why we took the trip, which kinda saddened me, but isn't surprising.
so, happy new year to everyone =] and a belated merry x-mas. lets hope 2002 is alot better than 2001, tho for some reason, it doesn't seem like it will be *sigh*
