Top Five Rose (Titanic) Scenes

Titanic has been one of my favorite movies for the past decade. It's the first film I really obsessed over and Rose was a huge part of why I loved the movie so much. I also love Jack and Rose, but she's one of the most interesting and well written characters to ever grace my screen. So here are my top five Rose scenes.

05 | That's why I trust it

Rose: When the ship docks, I'm getting off with you.
Jack: This is crazy. Rose: I know. It doesn't make any sense, that's why I trust it.

I put this on the lists because it's all about Rose liberating herself. She chooses to publicly express her feelings for him (the kiss on dock and holding his hand in the suite later--hee). She wants to get off the ship with him, her choice and she's not afraid to make it happen. She trusts her gut. This movie really fills me with feminine pride. I don't know what it is. But I love that she starts to make her own choices for her life, consequences be damned. She just seemed so free here, less restricted and full of love.

04| Our choices are never easy

Rose: It's so unfair. Ruth: Of course it's unfair. We're women. Our choices are never easy.

The symbolism of the corset. Okay, stay with me here. I just love how the tight corset is representative of how trapped woman were because of their sex. Sacrifices. Rose had to sacrifice what she wanted to keep her mother in the lifestyle she had always known. It's ironic that her dad gambled all their money away so its up to Rose to save them. But also what her mom said? Rose made a hard choice later by leaving her obligations behind. Our choices are never easy.

03| You think you're big tough men?

Rose: So you think you're big, tough men? Let's see you do this.

The third class party is my favorite part of the whole movie. It's light hearted and it always puts a smile on my face. The fun-loving snark of this scene makes it awesome. I just love her cocky, sarcastic attitude. It's that fire that makes her such an interesting character.

02|Rose Dawson

I just love quiet sorrow and simplicity of this scene. She just stares forlornly at the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of hope but the sorrow on her face is palpable. She lost her old self, her family, her future, and Jack in less than a day. All she has left is a distant future. Another heartbreaking aspect of this scene is that she gets off the ship alone when she had planned to get off with Jack. I also love that she finds the necklace that she later tosses into the ocean.

01|I'd rather be his whore than your wife

Cal: Where are you going? To him?! To be a whore to a gutter rat? Rose: I'd rather be his whore than your wife.

Liberated Rose. I love you so much. This scene is what morals and feminism is all about. (Yes, sex can be moral. It's called love.) It was awesome to watch her spit in Cal's face instead of meekly allowing him to treat her like his property like she had in previous scenes. I think this is where Rose really grew the most. She always came off as a strong willed woman but she would still back down to Cal and her mother. Here she stood up for her life and values. I love it, so much.
