happy voting day!

something about election day in this city makes me love it a little bit more. the past few days, with temperatures in the upper 60s, i have found myself riding my bike through the city smiling without knowing it and singing whatever comes to mind. my heart seems full. the possibility of change is exciting and renewing. and in some ways i feel as if im seeing my city, my neighborhood, new again. maybe it's the grandpa and granddaughter i see riding through my neighborhood, granddaughter riding on the handlebars of grandpa's bike or joking with the friendly barista at starbucks where I got my free coffee after voting about getting his Kerry/Edwards tattoo removed, or seeing my roommate working at our polling place when I went to vote or having each of my clients ask me today if I had yet voted or the thought of going to an election party tonight at the home of some weathered, community activists in our neighborhood who are really fighting for change and growth for our community.

and maybe, even if just for a day or two, i feel hopeful about change, about our country's politics, about the beauty of our neighborhood, about the possibilities for my clients, standing out on the corners or lugging a crew of their children into my office so they can make their appointment.
