Thanks! If you could enjoy The Chronicles of Riddick for what it was, then it's likely you'll be able to enjoy 300 for what it is. Despite all my criticisms, I still enjoyed watching it, but I knew it could have been much more. Considering the source material and the quality of the special effects, it could have been a great movie in the hands of a competent director and decent screenwriters. It's like eating Kobe Beef that was prepared by a cook at Denny's. The problem is not that it's terrible; it's that you know it would have been so much better if it was prepared by someone more skilled.
The butchering of history thing is difficult to get over. Friends of mine warned me to just forget about the history, and I really tried, but some things were just such over-the-top fallacies that I couldn't ignore them. While my fanboy-self was screaming, "WAHOO!!! MORE BLOOD!" my college-educated-self kept repeating, "I am unworthy of my degree in history if I actually think this revisionist smut can be deemed 'entertainment'." So, if you go with the Mrs., I hope you both have a great time! Just try not to think about history. Or current events. Or the sigificant impact a film like this will have on future generations of students when they think about Sparta and the Persian Empire. Actually, it's probably more enjoyable to watch if you simply do not think. ;)

That is true about just about anything in life. Which is why depression rates skyrocket among liberals. :)
