So George Lucas is working on a Star Wars TV show . . . which isn't news to any fanboy or fangirl. What surprises me is that the
new show will revolve around The Clone Wars. I had read on numerous sites that GL was going to
focus on what happened between Episode III and Episode IV. And frankly, I'd much rather watch that than more Clone Wars animation.
I have nothing against
Tartakovsky's Clone Wars. Truth be told, I'm quite a fan of what we've seen so far. The lovely
Mistress of Mirth picked up both Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, and we loved them both. Although I find Tartakovsky's style more appropriate for Samurai Jack than Star Wars [aside: 1 jedi winning a battle against 20 battle droids? That fits SW canon. 1 jedi winning a battle against 2,000 battle droids? That's pushing it...], I loved the general feel of the storyline. Anakin's vision of a warrior fighting valiently to protect his love from evil, only to become absorbed by and corrupted by said evil, was particularly chilling and was very well done.
But more Clone Wars? Is there anything that wasn't covered in that time period in the movies, the cartoons, the novels, and the comics? Frankly, I'm much more interested in seeing how Vader hunted down the survivors of Order 66 than watching Obi-Wan and Anakin take down battle droids yet again. The Clone Wars were fascinating, but I'd rather get something new than watch something that's becoming old hat.
Perhaps this is just one of several SW projects we'll see? Maybe we'll get an animated Clone Wars and a live action show? That would, indeed, be the best of all possibilities. But
Lucas has been known to disappoint fans before, so we'll see what happens with this. Maybe, I'm being too cynical. Time will tell.
