001 [audio to visual]

[because Laurie's wonderful with teleportation-travel, this post opens up to the sound of her...vomiting. yay.]

Hrrg-kk...ugh. Dammit Jon.

[a pause, followed by the clicking of heels as she walks closer to where her device is]

Jon? JON? Where the hell are you? You know I don't like being left alone when you just decide to teleport me on a...on a whim.

If you were trying for Mars, you've gone a little off course I'm afraid.

Damn, I knew we should've stopped to ask for directions.

You must've taken a wrong turn at the edge of the universe. This is the City, apparently. And unfortunately, you're probably stuck.

Just like men to think they know where they're going.

[a pause as she puts her joking aside to frown]

...not something I wanted to hear, but everyone's pretty much been saying the same thing. I'm sure...once I find Jon, I'll be able to go back.

...even though I hate teleporting.

[The small smile he gives her is more sympathetic than amused.]

I'm afraid I don't know any Jon, but I haven't been here long myself.

Uh, what about Dr. Manhattan? Does that ring any bells?

So you're a new kid on the block. Wherever this block may be. Sorry to hear that.

Fraid not. Chances are we're from two entirely different universes, though, so it's not surprising.

It's all right. I mean, it's a crazy place to end up in but everyone's been great about getting me settled in. I guess we all know what it's like ending up here unexpectedly, so we can sympathize.

Right. I shouldn't be surprised about that. Jon's mentioned stuff like this before...I think.

Nice to know I've been teleported into such a welcoming place, but I'm still not thrilled with the idea of being stuck here. Isn't there any way I can get out of here?

Not as far as I know. I'm under the impression that even people who are more accustomed to the idea of multiple universes and teleportation aren't able to make it home.

On the other hand... if you're in the Square there's a welcome center set up, they've got maps and a place to crash. In case you can't find your friend.

...damn.

And how would I know if I'm in the Square?

It's where most people end up, I think? I'm guessing that's why they set up there.

What do you see around you?

A lot of shops.

Then you're probably in the right area, more or less.

That's good to know. At least I can get a map now.

[a pause]

Hey, I appreciate the help, uh...

[yeah her trailing off means she's hinting that she didn't catch your name.]

Rudy. It's no problem at all; I just wish I could've given you better news...

[Oh irony. Turnabout is fair play in introductions.]

Laurie. And it's fine. I wouldn't want anyone lying to me, anyway.

[ohohoh more irony]
