It's a summer of change. Last night, I sorted all the books on Kate & Holly's bookself in their bedroom & now that most of the board books have been put to one side, they can actually have their books neatly on the shelves. I kept theirs & my favourites, but even though I'd love to keep them all, in the real world, they need the space for the books they read now, not from years ago.
I have even sorted out a box of books from my own TBR piles of doom & will sort more. Realistically, I will never, ever have the time to read the several hundred books I have piled up in our bedroom & the study.
Last week, I sorted out 2 huge bags of handbags & a massive pile of clothes that are either too big or too small for me.
While I was sorting through boxes on Saturday evening, I came across 2 packing boxes full to the brim with Kate's aged 4 clothes. I didn't even know they were there & wouldn't have bought Holly new stuff if I'd known. Holly now has enough clothes to clothe a small army of 4 year olds.
The back room is a big tip of toys & I never use the room, so just tend to "ignore" it & close the door. I was inspired by watching a new house programme last week where they turned the converted garage into a bedrooom for one of their children. They'd all ready had it converted & intended to use it as a dining room initially, but it had just ended up as a messy storage area. Kate was very envious & said we needed a garage so we could convert it into a bedroom for her, as in an ideal world, she'd like her own bedroom & not share with Holly. She just now wants her own space & I can understand that, I love my 3 afternoons a week where it's just me at home.
I have several ideas for the room, but the main thing is that we complain that we don't have enough storage space, but we have a whole big room that is wasted at the moment. Watch this space!
Short term plan for the room is that I have a friend staying tomorrow & the sofa bed is in there somewhere ... Ok, it's not that bad, but she doesn't want to break her neck tripping on toys to get to the bed. Longer term plan is to make it into a playroom or bedroom & take out the dining room table & chairs that we never use, as we eat in the kitchen diner. Kate also wants her cabin bed putting back up. It's down in the cellar, as after a few months, she decided she didn't like being closed in, but one of her friends now has one, so she wants hers back! I can't do this, as it's too heavy for my back. If we could afford it, I'd just buy bunk beds & freecycle the single beds.
I'm also getting my head round that Holly starts school in September & that I don't have a job lined up. Plans are swimming, dog walking, decluttering toys & decorating. Can't really declutter toys when Kate & Holly are with me. Also, can't swim lengths for myself when I take them swimming, as I'm in the shallow end with Holly in her armbands.
