The first night...

After I unloaded the car, and took care of the critters, I went to the nearby Wal-Mart to pick up some basics for the first day. One of them was a box of hot pockets for a little dinner for myself. I got home and heated up one in the microwave, placing in directly on the glass tray because the box of plastic utensils and plates was not in my car. The microwave was a little powerful and did a sufficient job of heating, which caused some cheesy goodness to ooze from said hot pocket. Since the tray was now greasy and icky, I placed it on the counter by the sink to wash it later.

By this time, Cricket was off exploring around the house, meowing and checking everything out. I went off and proceeded to unpack or plan or something. All of the sudden, I heard a crash! I realized that my brilliant Cricket had somehow knocked the platter off the counter and it was shattered into pieces. I went into the kitchen and found her proudly walking across the shattered glass and found the curtain above the kitchen sink dangling from only one of its supports. My hypothesis is that she was walking across the tops of the cabinets, tried to traverse the rod and fell onto the counter knocking the platter onto the floor.

After that, I did a little swearing of some form and put each animal into a separate room to keep them out of the glass. Then I drove back to the Wal-Mart to buy a tiny broom and dustpan, for there was not such an item in my carload. I walked by the hand vacuums to price one for cleaning up the tiny bits, but my thrifty mind came up with a better idea...TAPE! I bought a roll of masking, extra wide, to pick up the remaining pieces.

I cleaned up the mess, set up the air mattress for sleeping on and waited for Alan to arrive. We found out during the night that our air mattress has a leak. It was not the best of rest.
