Some men just want to watch the world burn...

OMG. I SAW THE DARK KNIGHT ON TUESDAY. AND I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was such an unbelievably amazing movie - for a change living up to all the hype that has been surrounding it. And it serves as an entertaining superhero film, a 'thriller'/horror (?) film, and a very intelligently made film about madness and power and corruption - what is 'good' and what it means to be a hero. [I was talking to a friend about this - she's an English extension student, and she said Batman was like the "anti-hero".]  Which pretty much caters to everything I love in films. And HULLO - Christian Bale? *dies a little inside*

And it's made me love the Bat all over again - he was always my favourite superhero (HUMAN - as baggy7  pointed out, he has to rely on his own skill and intelligence to defeat crime, angsty, realistic - and unlike *someone*, he's not portrayed as the almost-Messiah), but I guess (why can't Bruce Wayne have his own TV show?) he was temporarily displaced by the Winchesters and Superman and the Pevensie boys.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT, GET TO A THEATRE ASAP. Whilst I'll admit it wasn't a "perfect" film, it was VERY, VERY good - and that was good enough for me.

I'll try and keep this short, I know my reviews can get out of hand sometimes. :)
Christian Bale was AWESOME as Batman. I know everyone is lauding Heath's performance, but I really, really enjoyed Christian's performance and the whole construction of a Batman who now has power and has taken revenge - and so is really looking to the future now, the future of Gotham City. "Gotham needs a hero with a face, a name. Harvey Dent is that hero." (I'm paraphrasing, but stilll)
He did fantastically in the action scenes... and he has really managed to encompass Bruce Wayne (hot, spoiled billionaire) with Batman (angsty, broody, violent, intelligent crimefighter) into a character without making it over the top or ridiculous. And the decision he makes at the end? THAT WHOLE LAST SCENE WAS FULL OF AWESOME. BATMAN'S DECISION TO BECOME THE VILLAIN - GETTING CHASED BY THE POLICE WITH HIS BLACK CAPE FLOWING - THE POLICE COMMISIONER DESTROYING THE BATLIGHTTHING. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE HOW THEY ARE GOING TO DEVELOP HIS CHARACTER FURTHER! *bounce bounce bounce*

The only part I wasn't really sure about is this whole relationship with Rachel (Maggie was so sweet, though) -I wasn't really sure how that whole normal-life thing meshed in with everything else that was going on with Bruce's character. That said, I wailed (internally, of course) when he was crying and when Alfred took Rachel's letter away...
If there IS a third film (this film has made over $400 million. there WILL be), and there is a love interest - I want her to be someone that can teach Bruce/Batman that there is more than one way of fighting crime - teaching, working as a doctor/nurse or a social worker are all such positive ways of helping a city in crisis like Gotham. He is so full of angst and hurt and bitterness - he needs someone to ease him out of that a little bit.
NOT TO MENTION HOW GOOD HE LOOKED. Look, he's more evidence. :)

Heath Ledger was fantastic, of course. He was the epitomy of madness and yet there was so much 'intelligence' there - method in the chaos, if that makes sense.
The screenplay was brilliant - the Joker got some really good lines that I'll need to see a few more times to totally understand. The situation with the two boats was as fascinating as it was sickening (not to mention the hospital vs. Bruce's lawyer scenario) ... I can't say what I would have done had I been in their position.
Every mannerism, every word - Heath really embraced this new anarchist, sadistic Joker and he played it to the full.

As for everyone else... good supporting cast, I guess. IDK so much about Harvey's actor... I just didn't find his descent into 'madness' totally believable. It happened too quickly, and for someone as mentally tough and resourceful as Harvey... all that over merely Rachel's death?
[By the way... is he dead?]

Screenplay = LOVE.
Music = LOVE. (Does ANYONE HAVE THE SOUNDTRACK?????]
Action = LOVE, for the most part. It did get totally unbelievable - but they had to blance the horror with some fun action, I guess.
Cinematography = LOVEEEEE. I need to find graphics - how many scenes I could just imagine icons being made! The sweeping shots, city skylines... that last scene on the bike... *gushes*

Anything interesting in the fandom I can delve into? Batman is such a bloody epic character (and they chose to do the TV series on Supes, not Batman. FAIL, WB, FAIL) and the Joker is such an awesomely intelligent villain there is just so much to unpack!
I tried looking for fic - but it's all full of Joker/OC, Joker/Rachel (?) or Joker/Batman (YUCK. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK. What is WRONG with you people?) ... I was hoping for some sweet Rachel/Bruce to make me feel better, but no such luck. ;)

By the way - for anyone who's interested - I WILL get back to your comment, if I haven't done so yet. I'm so sorry, it's been crazy these past few weeks and will be again - I've got two more posts to make soon and then I'll probably be on hiatus again. ;)

Have an awesome Friday/weekend everyone!! xD
