Introducing... 'The Sons of Ipswich'...

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS all round to

dontcockblockme and of course, our boy, Dean Winchester. Which were both yesterday. :)
I hear there's a picspam at
raloria 's journal, so check that out if you're interested.

Loved the fashions from Gossip Girl or squeed over Blake Lively's exquisite personal taste? Check out this website - http://www.freewebs.com/dresslikegossipgirl/. Very cool. :)
There are also links there to Dress like Hayden Patinerre (sp?) et al - if you're interested.

It's been fun catching up with old friends in the past few days - and in between coffees and encounters with snakes at the bus stop (bloody Australia) - I watched The Covenant with the exceedingly good looking Steven Strait and the appearances of Carter-from-Gossip-Girl, Chase Crawford (Nate Archibald from Gossip Girl, Tyler in the film) and Jessica Lucas (2030 CE, She's the Man).
Whilst Steven looks absolutely gorgeous in his open necked black shirts, tuxedos and speedos *yum* (as do all the others) - the film is to be used only as a SQUEE fest with some friends.
DO NOT, under any circumstances, TRY AND UNDERSTAND THE PLOT. It will be the death of you.
While it attempts to be a "action thriller"- despite the fact it's confusing, random and vaguely amusing. The subject matter (descendants of five families of witches form the "Sons of Ipswich" - the fifth family was killed in the Salem Witchhunts, but were they really...?) was fascinating though - so I definitely will check out Stephen King's The Shining if I've got some time.

And because it occured to me that I'd never given you guys my lowdown after the complete half!season of Gossip Girl - here it is. Cut for length. :)

Dan is definitely waning in my affection. I mean - the way he treated Vanessa (and Serena, too, on that occasion) was cruel, especially after all those years of friendship.
And I'm getting very disappointed with his character - I really thought that he was an intelligent, balanced, cute, well rounded character. I guess he is to some extent - but this whole Serena obsession, and the fact that it's lasted so long - really creeps me out.

And Serena? Ugh. She's getting so... goody-two-shoes. You don't suddenly change from bad girl to perfect girl, and then suddenly realise that your "one true love" is an obsessed boy from Brooklyn who you never used to look at before. Her only saving grace is her relationship with her brother - Blake shows a beautiful affection in her scenes with him which is just... :)

Serena/Dan - PDA much? Ugh. Major overload of the cutesyness, for me at least. And I don't understand how a relationship could possibly work where they have nothing to really bind them together, except obsession on one person's part and a desire to find someone who will actually treat her decently on the other.

vanessa? Full of awesome. I love her outfits, her style, her wonderful generosity in accepting that Dan isn't hers anymore and making efforts to try and understand his new life and new friends.
As for getting too close to him - perhaps. But she's been his friend and confidante for much, much longer than Serena and it only comes naturally to her to help him with his problems and be around him, y'know? I'm also hoping that they aren't going to drag on her puppy-love for Dan much longer, because she's got better guys to find. *pushes her towards Nate*

Jenny? One of the most intriguing, multifaceted characters - especially for someone so young. The last episode, after the dethroning of Queen B, were particularly interesting - all this time we thought she was an innocent girl just trying to make friends with the "cool group" - but is she a hard hearted social climber or is she trying to bring the group down from within?
Questions, questions. Her friendship with Eric is also very cute, and what her "innocent" self would probably end up developing - but her friendliness with Nate too? [I like her with both, by the way.]

As for Nate... ?
I love that boy, I really do. The way he really stood up to help take control after his family fell apart - it was heartwarming. He has his heart in the right place - but he's swayed by other people's manipulation, his own self doubts and selfish desires. I'm hoping he gets over Serena (because there's nothing really to see there) and finds someone who loves him for HIM - not for his wealth or position, and not because they would be the "golden couple" (like him and Blair).
He made many a mistake with Blair - I don't think he really loves her, he just wants what he can't have, which is his problem, I guess. Hopefully the total destruction of most of his friendships/relationships will give him time to think - I don't want him staying angry at Blair for too long. She doesn't deserve it.

Blair?
I LOVE HER. She's multifaceted - she can be a hard bitch, but the scenes with Ramon and her father were heartwarming. Plus, she has excellent fashion sense!
I think she's confused, like Nate is - she doesn't really know whether she loves him, or whether she loves Chuck ... she wants to hold onto her power as Queen B, but...
She kind of deserved the ousting though - even Chuck brushed her off. I would hope that it would teach her something, but I think she'll just become even more determined than before.
I would write more about her awesomeness but I've been typing for so LONG - my hands hurt. :P

As for Chuck...
He's rising in my affections, I guess. There's just something about him - another lonely, rich, confused boy. :)
What he said to Blair in the last episode was absolutely stinging - but I think he knows he will never get Blair Waldorf and the reasons are exactly why he loves her. It's more of a vague curiosity that's attracting me to him, I guess.
I'm curious to see whether/how he's going to try to salvage his relationship with Nate, now that he's broken off anything with Blair.
