Quasi Poll Time!

I have two job offers right now, after a long pain in the ass search. Still have two interviews left, but I'm trying to start narrowing down the field.

So...

Mountain View CA

OR

Hampton Va

Considering things about them are about equal. (Ask me if you want deals, the excel spread sheet is neck and neck right now)

Oh Jesus, go to Mountain View.

Hampton is probably cheaper, but will be hot and humid and sort of gross and industrial. There aren't any real colleges around (William and Mary is about 30-40 minutes northwest of the city), so there's not much college life. And I think the West Coast is probably more fun.

though if you end up in Hampton you can always day-trip out to the Outer Banks, and of course you can experience Virginia History (tm) at Williamsburg.

I agree with Tim. Mountain View is awesome! I was there last summer and shall be there again this summer.

Pros:
1. Beautiful weather. I don't think it rained once last summer.
2. Lots of charming (well, charming as in... geeky) interns from NASA and SETI and Google
3. The town is wonderful and has a train to San Francisco and a farmers' market with the most delicious fruit ever on Saturdays and every type of restaurant you can imagine and little Japanese grocery stores with wondrous candy and three bubble tea shops and...
4. BIKE PATHS and...
5. San Francisco! and...
6. You can turn right on a red light!
7. Wind tunnels!
8. Lots of other things! I'm so excited to go back!

Cons:
1. You can't go in the enormous hangar at NASA Ames because of asbestos. :(

I was living at NASA Ames but I wasn't actually in the NASA Ames program (I was in SETI's REU program). So I can't really comment on the NASA intern program specifically (but could give you the e-mail address of someone who can!). :)

Are the jobs pretty much the same? I hate decisions, and job hunting. I've never been to the west coast. I guess VA would be closer if you wanted to visit home for holidays, but like the person before me said there doesn't seemto be that much around it....the only things there seem to be air force, and space related, which is a good thing for you. Mountain View has...uh google apparently. Pull the name of one of the places out of a hat?
