It's only been nearly a week. Good grief. But Tom's been boggarting it. *pokes him with a stick*
I don't have a lot to report though. There is a new job possiblity on the horizon but it's going to require some big changes. (there's that damned Death card...) So I'm still thinking about it. besides I have to get word that they are hiring first. *shrugs* Other than that...uh..he needs a nickname that I can refer to him with. But he's decided to join the air force reserves...why? I have no idea. Seems a little sudden and weird. But then I don't know him well enough to know what's sudden and weird. Still...
Anyway. That's about it. I'm almost to the end of Final Fantasy III. yay! And I"m dying to get my Wii so that I can play Zelda. *drools* I wanna play Zelda. I also want to get Starfox for my DS...dunno why, I just do. Something about a piloting game just sounds fun. There's also one for the Wii but I don't know about that one yet. *shrugs* anyway. Lookie! story from last week that I've started. Still have no idea where I'm going with it really. It also had no name. I don't know what to name it yet. I'm sure it will come to me. :)

6:00am
Charlie’s bag slid to his desk. The lap top inside jostled a little then settled half out of the bag. He yawned and adjusted his jacket. Back to work. The winter break was finally over. He’d been here nearly every day anyway, working on various lesson plans and information for his brother. None of that was the same as getting to share it with so many new minds. There was a thrill in that, that even out shone his work for the NSA and FBI. He liked knowing that he was helping to shape the future of math and the people who would eventually reshape the field that he knew so well.
The sun tried to enter through open places between the blinds. It was just starting to come up over the horizon, casting a red glow along the wall of windows. He wouldn’t open them until just before class. For now he was going to finish up the homework assignment. He dug through his bag and freed the lap top.
The office door open all the time, so when he heard the knock it made him twitch. A glance at his watch told him that it wasn’t quite time for Robyn to show up with breakfast like she normally did. They always had a counseling session before her first class. He helped her catch up on work and gave her side assignments, things like that, not a true counseling.
“Yes?”
A young woman was standing in the doorway, a brown paper bag clutched in one hand.
“Good morning,” she fidgeted. “You’re Professor Epps right?”
Charlie finished starting up his laptop and smiled at her. She was in her early 20’s, with sleek brown hair coming just to her shoulders. She was short and stocky, with a wide smile too big for her face. Her eyes were a different story. They had that light in them, the light that he saw in Larry’s eyes. The eyes of someone whose brain was always working with input and planning out the cosmos.
“Yeah, please come in.” He offered her a seat.
“Oh I can’t stay long, I just came to give you this.” She set the paper bag on the table. It smelled like breakfast.
He looked at the bag and then at the young woman.
“I’m sorry,” she laughed and offered him her hand. “My name is Tina Simmons. A young lady name Robyn asked me to deliver it to you. She said she wasn’t going to be able to make it. Something to do with her parents.”
She had a good grip, Charlie noted. “I should have expected that on the first day of the new semester. They’re a little over protective of her. Thank you.”
“You’d think they’d be happy to have her out of the house and in college.”
Charlie reached into the bag and pulled out a breakfast burrito. As he unwrapped it and found that it was exactly as he always ordered, he knew it came from Robyn.
“They are; it’s just that she’s much younger than the average student here and they worry about her.”
“I see. Well don’t let me keep you. I hope to see you again Professor, I’ve heard a lot about you.” She watched carefully as he took his first bite.
Charlie tried to say something back but his mouth was full. He waved instead.
“I wonder if I should call her to make sure everything is okay.” He swallowed and went for his phone, then thought better of it.
“A little sweeter than usual.” He noted and took another bite.
Lines of sunlight made an almost perfect grid on his wall. The burrito was gone in a few bites and it was on to work. He popped in the remaining equations and sat back. This would be a good project; it would challenge the class, even Robyn.
He rubbed his eyes, trying to get rid of the odd spots trying to close in on his vision. His hands shook, and he felt his heart give a sudden twist.
“Charles, why did you call in a substitute for you classes today? I’m thinking that it has to be a mistake. Someone must have entered it in wrong.” Larry wandered through the door holding a sheet of paper. “I’ve never even heard of this woman. Tina Simmons.”
Larry looked up from the paper and saw Charlie clutching at his chest. “Charles!”

“Mom I’m going to be late. Really.” Robyn checked her cell phone. “I knew I should have stayed in my dorm last night.”
“You won’t be late.” Dana Scully fished through the piles of paper on the desk. “Mulder, you have got to clean this up. Put it down stairs or something.”
Robyn looked at the ceiling and sighed. “I’ll get you the ticket, and the name of the guy who had it later okay? I have to go.”
“Just let her go Scully, she knows how to handle these things.” Mulder leaned on the counter and sipped his coffee.
“Thank you dad,” Robyn grabbed the door handle. “Don’t worry this guy is a sucker for a poker game, he’ll bet anything. And he doesn’t even know what the bus ticket is. I’ve got this under control.”
Scully sighed and watched her daughter disappear through the door.
“You know, you’ve got to learn to just let go.”
Scully scowled at her long time partner as he sauntered into the dining room. He grabbed the news paper from the table.
“And I suppose you don’t have any problem with letting her walk into that situation. You know as well as I do that the people who get those objects are dangerous. Not to mention the people that she’ll attract once she gets it.”
“I didn’t say I didn’t have a problem with it. I just know that she’s got the right idea. It will be easier for her to get that bus ticket from a college student in a poker game, then it will be for us to walk in looking like the Men In Black or something.” Mulder took another swig of coffee. It was still hot enough to burn, he made a face. “Besides, Saylon won’t let anything happen to her. I’ve already made sure he knows what she’s up to.”
