Life as a parasitic couch-rat is going quite swimmingly, as you will be glad to hear. I'm currently staying with my summer roommate, whose excellent futon is a better bed than the one I've been sleeping on for the past 2 and a half years. It's awfully nice splitting time between a little bit of research, field preparation, translation work, and auditing some humanities classes. I haven't been this relaxed and comfortable in my own skin for a long time now, and I hope it lasts.
Spent today running around playing "The Quest", an archaeology-themed treasure hunt with a series of clues scattered around campus, hosted by the Archaeology Center and run by my friend Bear Douglas. I recruited fellow geo majors Julie, Nate, Spencer, and Valentina for a dynamite team. We lost a lot of time on one of the clues, but did alright on the other ones, and ended up coming in second out of five teams. Got a t-shirt for our trouble, too!
In other news, my crazy parents decided to give my an iPod for my 20th birthday - coming soon to a theater near you! - to replace the one I dropped down the toilet. It's silver, and sleek, and I have named it Atticus in honor of Atticus Finch, possibly the greatest literary and cinematic hero of all time. If you haven't read and/or seen "To Kill a Mockingbird", do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Absolute must. Rectify your miscreant ways now.
Also, if my userpic isn't enough motivation for you to go make yourself acquainted with the oeuvre of Gregory Peck, who besides being stunningly handsome had already received four Oscar nominations before finally winning for his performance as Atticus Finch in 1963, the movie certainly will. He's quite incredible.
