sarahblack RULES: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little-known facts about themselves. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names. No tag backs.
I actually did this once before, here:
http://tigermouse88.livejournal.com/51695.html#cutid1 For now I can think of but three new ones:
1. I never close the curtains in my room. Prefer to wake up with the sun shining, and reckon that if anyone can see me naked in there up on the third floor, they've earned it.
2. I get excited about quartz. Everywhere, even in the sand volleyball lot behind my dorm. Acquired taste...
3. I prefer to go barefoot in sandals everywhere I go.
This one nicked from
sarka and
hildigunnur:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
It is typically found that there is a straight-line relationship between the surface-wave magnitude M_s and the logarithm of N, where N is the number of earthquakes with magnitude exceeding M_s occurring in an area per unit of time:
log N = a - b*M_s
where a is constant and the value of b is a measure of the relative abundance of large and small earthquakes. This statistical model is often referred to as the Gutenberg-Richter 'law'.
My, my, what a nerd I am. From The Solid Earth, An Introduction to Global Geophysics by C.M.R. Fowler.
In other news, doing research is awesome. More later.
