Sophomore Recital

The Sophomore Recital is in March Voice Majors and I need to come up with 12 minutes of repertoire for my performance!!! Eeeep!

I already have 4 songs that I can use to represent this semester studies: "Parting" - Brahms (German), "Les Cloches" - Debussy (French), and "O Del Mio Dolce Ador" - Christopher Willibald von Gluck, "Angels, Ever Bright and Fair" -  Hadel.

I may have already reached my max time, but I still would really love to perform something off of Broadway, which means I may have to cut one of these pieces. But I love them all! Especially after researching the larger works they came from. Although, I will say that my least favorite is Angels because the opening interval in the Aria is really tough. As a mezzo, that bottom note is right on the spot where my voice flips from head to chest voice, which makes it difficult to find a nice placement for that tone. Also, it begins right on the piano's resolving chord, which is strange and a little difficult to anticipate. After all, the whole point of the recital is to show off my strengths.

So, I'm thinking I want to do something from "Anything Goes," my favorite musical of all time, ever since I got a part in SCC's show two years ago. Hollie, the girl that played Reno, did an amazing job.  I was absolutely smitten by her performance of "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "Anything Goes." I'd love to sing either one of them and since nobody likes going last, I could change and do a nice dance number to go with it! The only thing that concerns me with that is the fact that the "Anything Goes" is a bit risky if there are little kids watching... Or my Mom. Haha! You gotta love Cole Porter.

Anyways, I'll have to think about it and run it by my instructor.

On another note, I need to start making plans for Grad School. Mrs. Campbell was giving me more information yesterday about the schools in the area.
UCF? Maybe. No.
Rollins? Expensive but awesome.
Stetson? I'm gonna have to say hell no because l'd be paying that off until after I die.

But then the question comes in: What about the other stuff? That Fine Arts Degree I've always dreamed of (Painting, Sculping, Design... Giuseppe, from one of the best schools in Italy wont be here much longer). That writing scholarship that I just entered my pieces for. Those acting classes that I've secretly spied on, peeking through the cracks where I could just barely see students marching back and forth across the stage. Can't I have three or four specialties? I need more time!
