2018 goals

Never too late to articulate 2018 goals!

1. Run 1 5K a month/Run a PR.
PR'ing at a 5K takes a different mindset than running a marathon. I'm taking a break from the longer distances, but a 5K a month still is both doable and a worthy thing to do. And maybe I'll even get a PR out of it.

2. Get outside in Atlanta.
What? The girl who lived in Alaska for 2 years needs to work harder at getting outside? I feel I do a pretty fine job hanging out at the outside places (Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Beltline, for example) that are close to my abode - ES and I are big neighborhood walkers on the weekends and during the week, now that I take MARTA to work. (That being said, Atlanta gets a really bad rap as being an urban hell for traffic.) A friend of a friend published Hiking Atlanta's Hidden Forests, Inside and Out, and I think something that is achievable is 1 urban hike from this book a month. Most of the trails allow dogs on leash, so Newman can/and should easily come along on these adventures. In fact, we've already done a January hike, having gone for a walk at Cochran Shoals unit of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area yesterday!

3. Get out in Atlanta, period.
There are many touristy and otherwise things in Atlanta that I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I have not yet visited (MLK Memorial! Coke Museum! Fernbank Planetarium!) So, in addition to one new trail per month, I'm adding one new "ATL Attraction" per month to the list. We'll see how we do!

4. Use Meal Services Less.
In 2015, we fell into using meal prep delivery services such as Blue Apron and Plated pretty heavily. They did remove a certain stress from meal planning at a time that we needed it (a.k.a wedding planning time). They have, however, become a crutch, and I have new cookbooks I want to explore and use and an Instapot that just arrived. I don't want to eliminate them entirely - they are really useful for the week after one returns from being out of town, for example, when you don't have time to get to the grocery store. So, this year's goal is to only use them in that exact instance - the week after returning from a weekend out of town. Tracking to be accomplished using a 2018 planner for meal planning purposes.

5. Maybe update this thing more frequently.
Like, say, more than for a yearly books list and goals recaps.

Here we go, 2018!
