Furlough Field Trip

Oct 09, 2013 21:20

Yesterday was Day 8 of being furloughed. With no end in site, a small group of friends (all furloughed or furlough-friendly) decided to take a day trip up to North Georgia to do some apple picking and pumpkin-patching. We ended up up with a BEAUTIFUL fall day, and everyone came back with at least one pumpkin or more, and lots of apples.

Which naturally led to Day 9's activities. I had only purchased one pumpkin, and I cooked that up and have a HUGE amount of pumpkin puree. I made two loaves of pumpkin-beer bread, and still have, well, a ton of pumpkin puree. Perhaps pumpkin soup tomorrow for dinner? If any of you dear readers have some favorite uses for pumpkin puree, I would love to hear them!!! (MJ already let me know I could use it to make a facial. I'm going to investigate this more thoroughly tomorrow).

I also made some pretty kick-ass whole wheat apple muffins, courtesy of Smitten Kitchen (of course). I still have a bunch of apples left, but those will probably get eaten in a matter of days.

As far as the furlough goes....I remain incredibly frustrated. I'm really looking forward to going back to work, and hopefully soon. This has not been a relaxing vacation, far from it. Fingers crossed something will get worked out by next week.
