The month of transition is almost over. The first two weeks of work have been great--hectic, but great. I've reconnected with my old friends, and am starting to make new ones. I've signed up for my
ScoutMob discounts. My new home is pretty great. It's located in a very walkable location--grocery store, library, shops, bars, restaurants--are all very close. It's a short drive or bus ride to work. There are lots of runners in the neighborhood. I have some live music planned (tickets to Of Montreal this coming weekend, possibly going to Rasputina Tuesday night). I'm planning on signing up for my old CSA, which delivers to my neighborhood. I've signed up for a few races, and am getting back on the training wagon. Once I get my bike here and in working order, some road riding will have to be in order....since you can do that in the winter here :-) I'm working on finding new trail runners to run with to satisfy my dirt needs. I have lots of plans, but am also trying not to do too much too quickly.
Wednesday, the movers will drop off my household goods at my new apartment. My goal is to have other furniture purchased, pictures hung, and have the place in the general state of "yes, I can have people over for dinner and not feel embarrassed about it" by the end of November.
I wake up some days and think I'm ready to catch my flight back to Alaska, and then I see my car and realize that, no, I'm really here now. I haven't taken it to get the ALCAN road dust washed off yet---it would be admitting that the physical part of Alaska Version 1.0 is really over :-P In the meantime, until I'm back in July 2010, SE outdoor adventures will have to do....so I better get cracking on planning those!
